My DH snores (because of his weight) and it helps when he takes a decongestant right before bed.

Divorce worked for me... Tada! No more snoring! :thumbsup2

Sorry - couldn't resist.

I've heard that snoring is a condition that may need to be treated. There could be times oxygen is being cut off. I'd ask a physician about how to handle it.

Dh's snoring is so bad I sleep in the guest bedroom! We have bought nose strips and ear plugs but I guess on vacation I am so tired we don't use either and I rarely wake up.
I have been known to toss an empty water bottle or two at him when he does wake me!!

:) In 2007 I came home from a trip to NYC with my MIL and she and DH told me my snoring was terrible. I had no idea and kinda sorta remember DH knocking on the head board a few times to wake me up so I could stop. Well I went to the doctor and he referred my to a pulmonologist for a sleep study which explained the obvious embarrasing fact that I had a problem. So we got me a CPAP. I love that little machine and I can tell a huge difference when I use it. I wake up in the morning ready to rock and roll.

So once I was able to sleep....DH kept me up with his snoring.....he went to the doctor.....then pulmonologist....sleep study and he actually has to use some of the highest settings out there on his CPAP. He built us little shelves behind our headboard for our machines.

So now no more snoring .....just the music of dueling CPAPs in the night.

I cannot recommend how important getting this checked was...now our BIL uses one and my ex-boss got one. My ex boss is from Puerto Rico and I could actually tell a difference in his skin tone/color when he used it and didn't use it---of course we were both skin care/wound care nurses and were more in tune to those sutle changes.

I can second the pp and the importance of a sleep study. If you are snoring there is a good chance you aren't sleeping properly. Talk to a doctor and get a study done. The CPAP machine does wonders. Do some research on sleep apnea and you will see that it is easily treated. Good luck.

OMG me too!!! I am so worried about going on vacation next week... I am definitely bringing ear plugs. Since we just bought into OL I am thinking of purchasing an air mattress to use, just in case I need to sleep out in the living area with the kids (we are staying in a 1 bedroom villa)! UGH! :rolleyes1

A hammer or frying pan might do the trick...this coming from a bonafide snorer:thumbsup2

I had a college Roommate that snored. When it woke me up... I hould do a single loud clap of my hands and it would startle him(not awaken) enough to make him stop long enough for me to fall back to sleep.

I snored for years, then recently started seeing an allergist for recurrent sinus infections that my family doctor and I thought could be due to allergies, even though I had no environmental allergies, as far as I knew.

It turned out I was moderately allergic to many things (dust mites, creepy crawlies, weeds, trees, grasses ...) but not severely allergic to any one thing so that I would know I was allergic.

I started on shots :headache: and I'm on a morning and an evening nasal spray. The evening one is some version of an antihistamine, and my DH and I jokingly refer to it as my anti-snoring medication, because as soon as I started on it, it stopped me from snoring. I also breathe better during the day, fwiw.

Moral of the story ... just another possible (and treatable) medical cause!

I agree about the medical issue possibilities. My dh used to snore...it turned out he has Sleep Apnea, a potentially dangerous condition. A CPAP machine cured the snoring and then we could BOTH sleep. Turns out he was "waking up" 50 to 60 times an hour...and never really sleeping.

The snoring person should get checked by a physician and have a sleep study done.

You sound exactly like my wife, although honestly I've never heard myself snore so I think she is making it up.:rolleyes1

Please, have him go to the doctor and maybe schedule a sleep study.

If it is apnea, getting the CPAP will be a life-changing (for the better) experience.

That is no exaggeration.

DH uses a CPAP machine....I slept in another room for about 2 years before he would admit he had a problem. All is good now.

Now the problem in my BFF snores! So when we travel together, I am just not used to it at all anymore. I hate throwing things at her :rotfl:
She knows she snores and uses the Breathe Right strips, but they don't really work.

Take the pillow off their head? :rolleyes1

I find a swift elbow in the back/front/head stops Mick for a short time. If I'm feeling nice, I roll hiim gently on to his side (and out the other side if I'm feeling nasty)!!!:thumbsup2

Seriously, hope you gte it sorted .. my mum snores like a freight train and I'm sharing a cabin with her on the Magic in July!! yikes :scared1:

Double yikes! Your post just reminded me that mine snores, too, and I'll also be sharing a cabin with her in July! :lmao:
If the earthquake centers pick up tremors that month coming from Fort Wilderness, that might be why!

My son snores. Picked up one of those over the counter throat sprays for snoring and that did the trick.

My DH snores and I find the only thing that works . . .

is to leave him at home. :goodvibes Unfortunately, that's true. I've asked and asked him to go to the doctor, but he doesn't think he has a problem. He thinks I have the problem. God love the little . . . .

:laughing::laughing::laughing:

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm the snorer, and unfortunately for DH, all the pokes and prods do nothing-I sleep like a rock. Not only does he sleep in the LR sometimes, he closes the bedroom door to give added "protection" from the noise of my snoring. So at this point, I'm sure he'd be willing to try almost anything new (except the divorce idea).
