Sneaky way of getting free shipping at AE.

Right now they have a special at AE where if you buy $100 or more you get free shipping. I was thinking of buying my daughter a few new tees and buy up enough of something else to make the $100 mark to get the free shipping. Then when I am at the mall the next time, take those items back and get all the money back for the items I purchased just to get free shipping? Anyone else ever did this?

I would do this.

I know some websites specifically state that if you return items that qualified for a discount on the whole order (buy two, get $10 off your entire order, etc.) that the discount will be reversed. I'm guessing they caught on pretty quickly to orders that would end up being that way.

You'll have to take in your packing slip to do the return and they'll see you got the free shipping. I'm not saying this will happen for sure, but just be prepared to eat the cost of the shipping from the items you're returning if they do catch it.

Which websites?

Back when JCP free shipping codes were harder to find, we had just moved into our home. I'd wait for a free ship code and order all kinds of blinds and curtains in diff. colors to try. Always took something back.

The one I specifically saw the other day was on the Lane Bryant website.

If you return an item purchased as part of a multiple discount (such as buy 1, select 1 for 50% off), your credit will be equal to the prediscount price minus a portion of the discount you received as a result of receiving a multiple discount, not the prediscount price of the single item.

I remember seeing something similarly worded on another website recently as well, but I can't recall where now.

Actually it seems a bit dishonest to me. It also seems like an awful lot of effort to go to to save a few bucks.

Why not just go to the mall to buy the shirts to begin with? I was just there today and they had a huge amount of stuff moved to clearance and lots of deals on shirts.

That seems like an awful amount of hassle to save just a few bucks. Not to mention, when people get cute like that and try to go around rules is when businesses stop offering specials. Geeze. Just go to the mall and buy what you need, or suck it up and pay for shipping.

People are tempted to do this b/c stores don't carry the items. Duh. I shop all the time w/free shipping from Lands End. Thankfully they don't have a min. to get the free ship. But I don't go to the store (Sears) b/c they don't carry half the stuff there that they do in the catalog.

That is my reason as well.

I like Old Navy clothes, but I am plus sized & they don't carry plus sizes in the store. I am forced to order online if I want their clothes, why should I have to pay for shipping, when everyone else has the option of walking in & buying?

So yes, when I order from ON I order enough to get free shipping & return what I don't want.

If enough people do this, sooner or later they will stop offering free shipping. Once again those who "bend the rules" will ruin it for those who don't.

Why can't people just play by the rules? So you can't take advantage of this discount, maybe you will be able to use the next one.
Why do people feel the need to get in on EVERY discount/special that is out there?

When did Old Navy get rid of the plus size section in their stores?

Did you know that at AE you can go into the store and they will order any items if its in stock (full price or sale item) with free shipping? Last summer I ordered 3 pairs of flip flops that were $3.99 each (due to not having my daughters size in store) and they were full price in the store. So, if you want free shipping, this is the way to go...

Well, actually its not a lot of hassle to me. I go by the mall all the time, and ordering a crapload of clothes and letting my oldest daughter pick and try on what she wants in the comfort of our home beats going to mall and doing it with possibly my four-year-old with us. Believe me, it will be a lot less stressful. I am defanitly going to do it. I will let yall know the results in a few weeks. Thanks.

They also do this at Lane Bryant. I found this out when I was pregnant. It was awesome. I would just put stuff in my cart, print it out, go to the store, they order it and it was shipped free to my house. It was an extra trip, but to save $15 in shipping, well worth it.

FYI - Old Navy discontinued their free return shipping for plus sizes in March. Half the items are now return in store and half are return by mail for a 6 dollar shipping fee. Be careful what you order.

If you go into Sears and order the items on their computers you get free shipping too. You don't have to wait until they offer the free shipping. Personally though, it takes me so long to go through everything on the website before I actually place my order. If you only have a few items that you want though, it's a good deal.

I dont understand all the hoopla about this? Is it really a big deal if the person doesnt mind returning the items? Geez :confused3
