sneakers or flip flops?

My daughters LIVE in flip flops in the summer and that was what I was planning on wearing on them each day of our trip. My mom thinks I'm nuts and thinks I should put sneakers and socks on them due to all the walking... I kind of see the point, but I think they'll give me a problem about wearing their big heavy hot nikes with socks. I know I won't be wearing sneakers - I live in my flips too! Any thoughts out there???

I think maybe you should plan on both. I live in flip flops and can easily wear them in Disney. DD9 wears flip flops every day in the summer but they bother her in Disney. It really is alot of walking and something that is comfortable for daily use is not necessarily okay for the amount of walking that Disney requires. Are you going to have a stroller? That might make it okay if they're only walking into attractions.

I would bring both or crocs. my daughter prefers sneakers or crocs at Disney as opposed to flip flops

I generally wear only flip flops to WDW, or anywhere :) I do take my running shoes, and wear them on really long/walking days.

My kids wore running shoes once or twice, but mainly wore Keens and Crocs.

Pack for more than flip flops, but, I would not necc discourage them.

I vote for shoes...but then again, I'm a guy who doesn't wear flip flops a lot. My opinion probably doesn't count.

Have a magical day!

I'm a guy who wears flip-flops a lot. Pretty much all I wear during the summer.

For me it would depend on the flip-flops. I have an inexpensive pair from Kohl's that I wear most of the time when just running out to the stores and such. For Disney, I wouldn't wear them. I have another pair of Speedo flip flops that are quite a bit thicker. Those are incredibly comfortable and I would wear those at Disney. So for me, it depends on the actual flip-flop.

My daughter and I both wear flip flops all the time and that is what we wore to disney and were fine.:confused3

I just bought Reef Fannings (on the recommendation from some Disers) and after receiving them and loving them, I think I am going to buy my little DD a pair. Her and I wear flip flops everyday, and she loves wearing them.

I will bring both flip flops and sneakers to Disney, but I definitely plan on wearing my flip flops the majority of the time. My DD probably won't even let me put sneakers on her:goodvibes

I can't wear flip flops at Disney without getting sore feet, but my teenagers wear them the entire week with no problem.

No matter what my kids usually wear (in their case, crocs), I always bring a pair of sneakers for each of them. I find that alternating shoes day to day cuts down on sore feet (or at least sore in the same place every day ;) ). I personally HATE wearing socks. If your kids' sneakers are broken in and won't give them blisters, they could always wear them without socks to be slightly cooler.

I'm over 50 and wear my flip flops all week at WDW. My DIL's also do it without any problem.

We wear flip flops, but bring along sneakers/socks just in case. I don't wear the cheapo Walmart flip flops. I like the Nike flip flops. I also wore athletic sandals (good ones) one year and that was fine. My feet get too hot & sweaty in sneakers/socks at WDW.

We did sneakers during the day and crocs in the evening, so the sneakers had a chance to air out. Easier during the day with sneakers, no worries about crocs or flip flops falling off, no need to remove during some rides int he parks (like Soarin).

We bring sneakers and flip flips crocs and wear them all. If the flip flops are cushioned they will hold up much better then the $2.00 pair from Old Navy. My DD 12 wears flip flops mostly and never complains that her feet hurt.:thumbsup2

We just got back and I wore Teva Mush flip flops and they were great for everything. Had support for your feet, knees and backs. Got wet and dried right away. On sale at Dillard's for 16.

We wear flip flops all summer, and sometimes in the winter too, but at DL we wear comfy sneakers with socks. No way would we wear flip flops, the kids don't even ask because they don't want to wear flip flops. We take them but they are more for pool time or wandering around Anaheim and the surrounding area then they are for DL/DCA.

At Disney World.. in the parks.. I wouldn't ever wear anything but sneakers..

I did flip flops once and will never, eva' do it again! LOL!:rotfl:

I wear flip flops all the time, however the last time we were at WDW I wore my flip flops for 1 day and my feet were so sore. It's just A LOT of walking. I will always wear my sneakers and socks and do the same for my kids. How hot do sneakers really make you? They are only covering your feet and if your feet are comfortable then you are more likely to be comfortable too.

Just my opinion. I would definitely bring the socks and sneakers. If your kids are being pushed around in a stroller most of the day it may not bother them to wear flip flops. But if they are walking around I really think sneakers and socks would be more comfortable.

Good Luck with your decision and have fun on your vacation!

We take a pair of good sneakers (well broken in) and thin moisture wicking socks, we take our Keen sandles and regular flip flops. The first thing I do the minute my key card passes the door, is come out of the shoes, and slip in to the flops!

We've gone with just sneakers, and I've had some of the worst blisters of my life trying that...in fact, if I hadn't had flip flops with me (for using at the pool, knocking around the resort, etc.) I would have been ruined.

My best advice is to take several different types of shoes, wear the heaviest if you're flying and pack the lightest...and trade off, trade off, TRADE OFF!

Another little trick I've found is that if hot spots or pre-cursors to blisters start cover the area with plain ole mole skin (you can buy it at Wal-Mart or any pharmacy) it doesn't slip slide/make the problem worse like band-aids tend to. Once the mole skin is in place, believe me, it STAYS there! It doesn't come pre-cut so make sure you have a small pair of grooming scissors or pocket knife with you.

Have fun!

I always wear my sneakers. DD (23) has always been a flip-flop fan - but 2 years ago she had foot run over by a stretcher in the Magic Kingdom. (no warning the occupied stretcher was coming - I got pushed out of the way and her foot got smashed). DD spent the rest of the week in great pain and I really don't remember what she did for shoes....But now she likes tennis shoes better!!
