As many of you may know, I have a survey currently running called "The People of DVC." I was looking at some of the results so far and I think they're sort of interesting.

There have been 418 responses to this point in time. I picked out a few of the statistics that I think are sort of interesting:

  • Of those people living in the United States, 10.3% who responded list NJ as their primary residence. This was followed by NY at 7.1%
  • The occupation with the most responses (11.1%) was Education, Training & Library
  • 69.6% all respondents indicated that they did not use their points outside for other than a DVC resort
  • AP - 36% responded that they did not have own an AP, whereas 63% said that they either owned one or planned on buying one this year
  • DDE - 69.6% stated that they did not own a DDE, while 30.4% said that they either owned a DDE or planned on buying it this year
  • 42% of the respondents were between 35 and 44 years old.
  • It's their treat - 48% of the people who go to DVC with relatives other than their spouse/partner and their children/grand children, do so as their treat (they do not charge their relatives)
The survey will remain open through unitl midnight March 4th (still trying for 500 responses).

You can either take the survey (or edit your responses if you choose) by going to:

Thanks for the sneak peek.

Thanks for the sneak peek, I cant wait for the final tallies.

Yes, thanks for the sneek peak....interesting results so far.

Thanks for the info and for putting it together in the first place. Very cool!

I was really interested in seeing the answers...cool. Cant wait until the final results

age bracket was surprising ( younger group than I had anticipated )

Hi Neighbors

Thanks for the survey

Angela

The age bracket was interesting to me, as was that the majority of US respondents were from NJ.

However, if enough people take the survey that could change. I just checked the stats and as of now 464 people have taken the survey. I'm hoping for a really big sample to get the best (or better data) possible,

It's always interesting to speculate why data comes out the way it does. I mean the NJ factor. Is it:

  • People from NJ are more likely to respond to a survey than people from other states?
  • More people from NJ own DVC?
  • There are more people from NJ on DIS?
Frankly, I would have expected higher numbers from Illinois, Indiana and Michigan.

I take it backi, New York and New Jersey are now neck and neck.

Thanks! Interesting results so far. Let's keep the survey bumped up so many more answer it.

I'm not sure if you are asking about the top 3 for this survey or for DVC in general. I only know the data from this survey.

  • As of right now, there have been 494 responses in total
  • 90.6% primary residence is the U.S.
  • Of these, 12.1% are from NJ, 10.1% are from NY, and 6.2% are from fabulous Illinois.

I live in Ohio, but my heart lives in NJ! Even when we retire however, we'll not be moving to NJ, the real estate taxes there are too burdensome!

The survey has hit 500 responses. It will remain open until midnight tomorrow, Friday the 4th.

BTW, NJ is still the state with the most responses.

I fit into all of the categories listed above!

I just found the survey and responded. I was able to chose an age group that might help keep the average age lower but it a few months I'll have to start checking the next higher box. :(

According to my guide, the top 5 states for DVC ownership were (in order):
1. New York
2. New Jersey
3. Massachusetts
4. Florida
5. Pennsylvania

So plenty of Northeastern representation among DVC membership. I too was surprised that no Midwestern states were in the top five, but I suspect that at least Illinois and Ohio would place in the top 10, along with Connecticut (yeat another Northeastern one).

We had a robust discussion of this back in January, if you want to take a look.

Yeah, go Mass, we're catching up! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Disney of course would be the ultimate source of information. However, based on the DISers that responded, it simply does not pan out that way. The states in ranking order, for those who responded to this survey were:

1. New Jersey
2. New York
3. Illinois
4. Texas

The 5th largest if we were just thinking about places and not countries is the UK, coming in at 5th.

I just checked the survey and there are now 531 responses.

If we thought about places and not countries, the ranking order for this survey would be:

1. New Jersey
2. The United Kingdom
3. New York
4. Illinois
5. Texas

I'm confused. By "doesn't pan out that way," Ian, do you mean to suggest that you are disagreeing with DVC's (okay, pumpkinboy's guide's) statistics? Or do you just mean that it doesn't pan out that way for this particular survey? It seems to me that Disney would know much more info than we (DVC DISers) would: we must represent a very small sample of DVC owners, no?
