Snarky Snow White

Sorry I just meant that in my experience, I've worked with a lot of actors of different levels.. Student, amateur, famous, not so famous, etc. and what I have notice is that the lower level actors are one with the biggest attitudes.. And I would consider the face characters probably a lower level and at least at Disneyland many of them would like to pursue careers in film as real actors.. In my head it was relevant but I guess you don't get my point.:confused3

I too have worked with actors (stage, film, student, professional, improv) and I can tell you the "real" actors you mentioned in film work half as hard as the Disney character actors (who I consider "real" actors as well.) I will be offended for them.

The ones you refer to have to be in character for what? 10 minutes at a time before the scene is reset and done again. These girls and guys have to deal with cumbersome costumes, cranky kids, parents with unrealistic expectations, people from every country and culture in the world, and the pressure that some little kid may be meeting their hero! Kuddos to the ones who do it well.:thumbsup2

Ok why does Disney not have a no hickey role for face characters? V that is scandalous!:lmao:

So I'm curious princess briana- on another thread you said you aren't old enough to rent a car , yet you are so experienced in the film industry to critique actors on various levels... Care to explain?popcorn::

I haven't had a bad snow white - but we had a Ariel that asked us if we were going to the MNSSHP and when we told her we were all she would talk about was having us to go see some other prince (not her's) and tell him hi from Ariel in the Castle...not once but like 3 or 4 times...it was a little annoying:confused3 "make SUUUURRREEEE you tell him Ariel in the CASSSSSTTTLLLE said Hi!

:lmao::lmao::lmao:I wonder if she was cheating on her own prince.

Oh, I got your point. But here's the thing. The vast majority of performing CMs at the parks are, for the most part, much more interested in a stage career vs film. And that's much harder work. I also have worked with many levels of actors. And there are ego's at every single level. Oh, and by the way...those egos can be found in every single profession.

The face characters at the Disney parks have a hard job. For the most part, they interact with the guests quite wonderfully. And yes, every so often we hear of a less than stellar CM. It happens. But it's just awful to say that these are 'lower level performers'....I can't imagine having to do the job they do...day in and day out. It's one thing to get up on stage, or in front of a camera, and play a part that way. But to interact, with guests, one on one, hour after hour??? Yeah, that's why you couldn't pay me enough to be a princess. Now, the Evil Queen or Malificent??? Heck yeah!!!

It's a character interaction...it's not life or death. Yes, it can be disappointing to a child to have a less than perfect time with a character. But, just chalk it up to someone's having a bad day, or some other issue. And if you find that maybe that particular person may have given others the same bad experience, then let Disney know. That's about all you can do.

Different =/= harder.

Each carries with it its own difficulties, but to universally declare one more difficult than the other shows a gross misunderstanding of both businesses.

I've known a handful of people who have worked at Disney as characters. They were all in the college program. And none of them wanted a career in acting. They were there because they loved Disney and wanted to do something they loved. I myself would love to be a princess but wouldn't want to touch an acting career with a 10 foot pole.

Now I know that a lot of the people that work there DO want some kind of acting job...but as a PP said they want a stage career, not a big screen one.

So I'd guess you'd say, yes, you're right, I DON'T get your point and how it pertains to this thread and the OP's experience.

I suppose I should count myself lucky that I have never had a bad Princess experience (moley or otherwise :rotfl:) I do remember the Snow at Akershus being very pretty though she was last in the Princess line and we were in the last table area. I didn't want to wait but she seemed to be very sweet so she must have been mole free.

We did have Aladdin at Akershus. I said to him "Well, Aladdin... You are part of the Princess Lunch? Does Jasmine know?" I thought he was going to bust up.

I will make sure to keep an eye out during this trip for sure! I can see a trip report just based on Princess behaviour in the works.

BTW - just as a personal note (since this type of Princess meet and greet gig is something I do professionally 4 months each year) I can attest that it is very draining but also very rewarding. While I am a professional actor, that has no bearing on the job you do especially with kids. I would never dream of treating any child the way some of these kids were treated and that makes me sad. I'm being paid to do a job - a job I love and that others get enjoyment from. I feel that if you get to the "burn out point" and it happens to the best of us, it's time to move on to another position.

At Disneyland several years ago, Snow White had a massive hickey on her neck! Yup, she sure did. The makeup did not come close to covering it up, in fact, drew attention to it.

We jokingly called her "Slutty Snow White" the entire trip. Our daughter was a teen at the time and was the one that pointed it out to us. We howled.

She used to be Snow White until she drifted.

I'm 23, so technically I'm old enough to rent a car but I get charged a crazy amount extra.

As for my film career, I've worked for NBCUniversal in LA on "The Office" as well as "Community" (only sat in on notes calls with the execs for that one). I worked on several films in my hometown of Detroit, (Whip It, Transformers, Prayers for Bobby, The Island, etc.) I just got back from working on a horror film "Nurse 3D" in Toronto as the personal assistant to the lead actress.. maybe that's why it left a bad taste in my mouth, I don't know.. she was...different...

In college I was the Executive Producer of 6 TV shows, 2 of which won Emmy awards during my tenure there.

I've produced several short films and music videos, you can view some of them here: www.youtube.com/gardnervallentine

I also have a finance degree and after my most recent experience on-set in Toronto, I've realized that my talents lie in producing and I would much rather work on developing films and getting them financed, and made with my overall vision rather than working on a set day-to-day.

My internship with the Academy of Arts and Sciences was the #1 internship in the country for my field, by the way. I worked in local TV since I was 13 as a cameraperson on a talk show all the way through college on a PBS affiliate show.

So yeah, I may be young, but I've had a lot of experience. I'm not trying to brag by saying I work in film- I feel like a lot of people assume when I say I work in the movie business it's to brag...its not, it's my job. It's the same as if you said you were a teacher. It's my career and I'm passionate about it and I've been working in this field for almost 10 years, yes some of it was local but it's still in the industry.

Why do you think I love Disney so much? I want to run Disney Studios one day :cool1:

Sorry to hear that. We had a bad experience with Mary Poppins and she was rude/snarky with me. It was right when it was my daughters favorite movie and we waited a long time to meet her.
Seriously she was so snotty with me and I really felt like I had to just suck it up because i didn't want to say anything in front of my daughter who adored her and I almost felt like crying. I really felt insulted.

The later I thought maybe her rude remarks were her being "in character"
I didn't even want to watch the movie for awhile after that but I stewed quietly because i didn't want the experience ruined for my dd.
Anyhow I am hoping to replace the bad memory with a good one on this trip and I hope you and your kids are able to do the same!

I love meeting Mary Poppins when I'm in the world but DH always jokes that she acts like she's got a stick up her you-know-what.

So maybe it is her character.

We had a snarky Belle at CRT! I don't think I would ever pay the money to eat there again (Thank God I have boys).

MY son was 11 months old when we went to eat breakfast there with my in-laws and their little princess in training. Obviously my son was an infant, however, my DH and myself are not and we had to pay to be there. Belle went to everyone at the table and took her photo with them then she looked at my son and said "well I will be back later to pose with him" and just left to go to the next table. I was flabbergasted, but figured she would come back. NOPE! she fluttered around the building, posing and interacting with everyone and even came back to my niece but didn't come near us! Had I been a jerk I would have told her that she simply is not "princess material and honestly had too many wrinkles to be Belle and may she should move on to being the Fairy Godmother!!!" :rotfl:, but I did not b/c I am not that kinda girl! However, the Fairy Godmother was very kind and sweet so that Belle wouldn't have had the personality for it anyways.

I just find it terrible that they can act that way considering the money you are shelling out to be there in the first place. There are definitely better ways Snow Whilte could have spoken to you. She could have simply said "the next Princess visiting is Sleeping Beauty so have your pages ready for her" in her nice little princess voice. Geez, you give someone a crown and they feel the need to be snarky!!!!

What she undoubtedly meant was that she'll be back in about 14 years, when he'd be old enough to appreciate her.

Of course, by then, she WILL be playing the Fairy Godmother -- or Cruella DeVille... ;)

My husband and I met the Snow White the OP is referring to back in 09. I just looked at pictures and it's the same girl with the mole. It was my birthday weekend and it was just the two of us. She was at Epcot and walking out of a building near innoventions. I think she was alone but may have had a CM with her. I literally screamed "Snow White" when I saw her because she's my favorite princess and it was random and surprising to see her there.

I asked for a picture and she led us back in the building. We posed for pictures and she asked about what kingdom we were from and if we had a castle. I remember thinking she is so pretty. She was one of the best Snow Whites I've seen. I agree that if she said what the OP said she did and in the assumed tone, then that was wrong. I'm sure the job gets frustrating at times. I just wanted to give a positive experience with her because there has been a lot of negative. I'm definitely saddened by the negative view your children have of Snow White now.

We got back from the World on Sunday.

I'm happy to report that the Snow White at CRT was extremely nice. I did not see the mole and yes, I was staring at her face for it.:rotfl2:

We saw Mary Poppins at DHS and she was different than the one we saw at MK last year. The DHS one was definitely not as friendly. Yes, she was playing a role but it was in how she said it, like she was really aggravated. She was posing with Mr. Penguin, so that was nice to get his autograph, too. Everything she said was fine, talked about drawing and how Bert makes great pictures, too. But I just got an "off" vibe from her...not sure why.

I think our best snarky character was the Evil, oops, I mean Regal Queen from Snow White ... now she had the character down well -- very snarky, but you expect it from her! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I was so excited to see new characters (for us): Jafar, Evil Queen, Mr. Penguin and Max.

I think it's funny everyone is on mole patrol :lmao: terrible but how do you distinguish one SW from the other?!

I'm glad someone had a good experience with her , maybe she has tired of the role.

I got a response from Disney about a week after I first posted the thread. The usual we are sorry blah blah, unfortunate someone you know also had a similar experience ... We hold cast members to a high standard...characters (I'm not sure how the referred to them) are to maintain that high standard ... Would like you to know your concerns have been forwarded to the appropriate hands ... Being handled ... Thank you for feedback.

If she is a seasoned SW - at least since 2009 apparently , I wonder if she will get any action taken against her. I'm hoping not to see her.

I have to go look for my previous trip snow. She was nice at CRT but didn't talk long even though it was our last day and we said we had searched all week for her. It was packed that day though so she can't be blamed. Just wonder if it was her on a Better day. I assumed it wouldn't babe been because it was fall 2008 but if she was there in 2009, maybe...

I really hope Disney would not take action against any CM based on the complaints of one person. There would never be anyone working at the parks, as none of us are ever perfect at our jobs.

I think had you complained in person while you were at the parks you may have received a more satisfactory response. After all, there is nothing the can do to fix the problem for you now. I'm not sure what else they could have told you now.
