Snap circuits for an 8 year old boy?

What kind should we start out with? And are the kits expensive? I'm thinking my ds8 would love these (so will my husband LOL) and would make a great Christmas present. But what do I start with, a small set or is there a set that does multiple things? Anyone want to fill me in on snap circuits, please.

My DS12 got the SC-300 set when he was 10. It has multiple projects in it. My 7yo, 10yo and 12yo do projects in it together. It's a little hard for my 7yo to grasp, but if he works with someone older he gets it okay. I highly recommend them and I think this was a great starter set. I think I ordered it from Amazon. HTH

They are AWESOME! These are 'toys' like they used to make. Hours upon hours of entertainment, and well made. MY son got one for his 7th birthday from his grandpa and loves it!

Today he built a radio transmitter and he is able to follow all the directions on his own so it gives us some free time while he plays! Very fun!

My 8 yr old dd got the 500 (or maybe 750) for Christmas last year - best gift! She still plays with it a lot. If you can afford it, i would go with one of the bigger sets (the 500 is a bit over $50).
