SNAKES! Why did it have to be snakes?

Granted - most of these are established in Southern Fl. But it's only a matter of time people.

I really want to move to Florida but I'm having a lot of second thoughts seeing all the references to snakes lately. Maybe I should go to Hawaii where there are no snakes.

I live in central florida there is alot of snakes but most of them i see are dead in the road.

Snakes are nothing to worry about just don't do anything stupid if you see one

Ah. Another reason why I live in Minnesota. The most deadly animal we have here is the Mosquito.

the article states that Hawaii has a suitable climate for ALL of the snakes listed, and also notes that "females can store sperm and fertilize their eggs—which in some of these snakes can number more than 100—when conditions are favorable for bearing young."

all it would take is one female who had recently gotten frisky...

i'm not really afraid of snakes on a personal level, it's the impact on the environment that has me worried.

just to creep you out more, there are a lot of other snake discussions on the theme park community board, I have a phobic curiousity about them. I too would love to live in FL, but I keep hearing people, like Pete, finding them in their bathrooms and homes. I would have a cardiac episode if I saw one in my home. I think Floridians must have pest control people that can 'protect' their homes with chemicals and stuff, but really, I would sit on the couch with my feet up! (I have a friend in FL that had one under her couch!) All I can say is, 'give me a second floor or higher room please' (even though I know they can climb!)

I live an hour east of WDW--I have seen pygmy rattle snakes in my back yard on several occasions--only dangerous if you surprise them. Otherwise, they take off. I've seen a few geckos/salamanders in my home on rare occasion. Neighborhood feral cats seem to do a good job at keeping them at bay. It's the price you pay, I suppose, for living in a warm climate. By the way, as I write this at 10:20 pm EST it's 68 F!
