Just wondering if anyone has ever seen snakes while out on walks throughout the resorts, especially OKW as someone in our vacation party is deathly afraid of them:scared1:

Saw one at the South Point pool in June - slithered right across the sidewalk into the landscaping.

Saw another at SSR last year near the Grandstand lying on top of the shrubbery - this one was a black racer. I think the other one was, too.

It's Florida and there will be snakes and other critters. Especially during the hot,wet months.

We saw snakes at Beach Club last January but it slithered off before we got too close. I haven't seen snakes at OKW yet. We have stayed at OKW twice.

One of the harmless black snakes slithered across my foot while I was sitting at the South Point pool in June 2009.

There have also been a few on the sidewalks around OKW, and there was one in the main pool a few years ago. As Deb & Bill said, it is Florida, there will be snakes around.

Bingo. It is florida you have to deal with the bugs, snakes and so on. If the person in your group is that scared of snakes then have somebody in your group walk a head to keep an eye out. What you could do is get a room that is close to the mainbuilding. The reason for this, the closer you are to the mainbuilding the more traffic there would be on the walkways and the more traffic the lower the chance you will see the wildlife walking across the sidewalks. Otherwise, i would not worry about it. Good luck, have a great time and don't sweat the small stuff

We were in OKW building 20 earlier this month and a 5 foot black racer snake seemed to be resident as well as we saw it crossing the road near the pool/laundry building almost every day.

He could care less about us and seemed to be more in a rush to got off the blacktop and back into the grass. One of the herons that sat on the bushes near the pool snatching geckos would watch him, but never went after him as I'm guessing it was too big for him to overpower.

I was at BCV and saw a baby snake, only 5 inches by my patio.

I've seen lots of larger snakes at WDW, including one a Typhoon Lagoon. I try not to think about it too much.

I saw a rather large black racer at Blizzard Beach eating a frog :scared1: Got a cast members attention and they got the "Snake wrangler" :confused3 who told me they try to keep pests down in a natural way so they leave the snakes "on stage" unless they get too big and then they go "back stage"! :lmao: I too am scared to death of snakes, but I have to keep in mind that it's Florida and they have all manner of critters under those lovely shrubs! :thumbsup2

Just stay where it is really busy and they won't bother you. Enjoy your trip!:yay:

WDW is located in Florida. There are critters of all sizes and shapes, but you will rarely see them.

On the other hand, you might get lucky and see some cute River Otters or an adorable Whitetail Deer.

If one person in your party is deathly afraid of snakes, don't try to reason with them -- they can't help how they feel. Take the advice above and put someone in front of them when you are walking.

We've been to WDW dozens of times (and I'm used to looking for snakes and sort of automatically glance where they might be), and we have seen a total of ONE. And that one was a harmless corn snake.

Fortunately I've never seen a snake at OKW. However, one night as we were approaching our villa (building 42) we saw a group of people standing in a semi-circle looking at the ground. After a few minutes they turned away, and I overheard one person in the group ask, "What kind of snake was that?" I promptly scooted into our villa as fast as I could. That was close enough to seeing one for me! Once I was eating at Sanaa and one slithered along right outside my window.

I also do not want to see any snakes, if I can help it. I saw one once at OKW by the Main pool. It was not too long or big as my kids and husband say but if you ask me it was very big ;). We stayed at a friend's house in Bradenton, FL last Oct and the day we were ready to leave I told DH I was going to go outside by the boat and take some pictures of the canal. I was snapping away at the birds on the dock, etc and looked down and about 10 feet away I looked and there he was a snake curled up on the sidewalk. I took off and told DH it was time to go. It was smaller but looked like a diamond on its head. Did not stay to see too much. Hope you have a good trip with no sightings.

I've seen snakes at OKW, SSR, BCV, inside Islands of Adventure, and inside EPCOT. All were the harmless Black Racers or Corn snakes.

I've been corrected (again) by my DD8.

She reminded me that we saw "that cute little black racer" at BCV a couple of years ago...so our corrected total is now two. She actually sat and watched it for five minutes or so -- don't know how I forgot that! But the big attraction at BCV on that trip was the little bunnies all over the place.

Life with a Junior Ranger is hard...

I'm glad you got that straight!:rotfl:

I've remembered that we also saw a snake dining on a frog at VWL. It was as we were getting off the boat from the MK. Someone smacked the snake off the railing before too many people saw it. I think it would have scared many of the children.

I have seen 2 (my husband 3). One was crossing the path to Kidani from the Jambo house (long and black). The other was crossing the walkway to Hollywood studios from BWV. It was little, orange and slithering very irradically...it was raised up and almost slithering like a sidewinder.

I've seen a few over the past 10 years, but they usually slither the other way when they see me. :scared1:

To say nothing of scaring the frog!

Hey...as we say in the Everglades..."Everybody's gotta eat."
