Okay, let's just say I hadn't even THOUGHT about it until now - when I saw the word SNAKE in these forum boards. You gotta help me, folks. Am going with my 11 year old son and my Mum from June 20th to 25th at POFQ then AKL from the 25th to the 27th. Off to Homewood Suites on International Drive until July 6th.

Now, I can handle most anything in this world, but snakes are definitely a problem. I live in eastern Canada and the worst we have here are little garden snakes and I only saw one ONCE. I was about 10 years old and was working by a wood pile with my Dad. He pointed out the critter and I high tailed it back to the house.

I can't look at a picture or see one on TV.

Soooooooooooooo - how am I going to avoid these awful creatures on vacation? I know they have just as much right here on this earth as I do, but I do not want to run into one.

What do I have to do to keep from seeing one? What are the places to avoid?

Heck, I was looking forward to the vacation - counting the days actually - and now I am having second thoughts.

Please help me out here, I don't want to worry about this for 4 months.

Maybe I need some therapy before I go.....................

I've never seen a snake in WDW that was loose, but I have seen small lizards sunning themselves. It's not a problem.

:wave2:
Well, I have good news and bad news. The only snake encounter I have come close to having at WDW was handled very quickly. :goodvibes Upon returning to CBR one night, I went to the food court to refill our mugs. My mom and sis actually saw the snake. It was on the sidewalk leading to our room. They called the hotel front desk and by the time they made it back out to where they saw it, someone was already removing it. :teeth: They went back out to warn me because I sound an awful lot like you. I completely lose it at the sight of one. But I have been to WDW many, many times and that is the only close encounter I have ever had. At least you don't live where they are common. We see dozens around here every year. I creep out and always have to get someone else to deal with it. I love animals and am not afraid of any other ones...but I just can't handle snakes :scared1: so I know where you are coming from!

I've been to WDW at least 13 times in the past 6 years and i have never seen a snake...Alligator but no snakes...

We saw one in front of the BC last year slithering for its life across the sidewalk. It wanted nothing to do with the people stopping to look at it.

Im not sure how big your fear of snakes is... but if you dont like them all that much, You might want to avoid Honey I Shrunk the Audience. A 3-D one is in the show. Anyone think of any others? and it is very breif though.

I would avoid Port Orleans for snakes. Akl is actually a good choice because you're seldom actually at ground level. I've seen snakes at the Beach Club, PO and Poly, but they're not looking to bother you. The gators on the other hand... :hyper:

I have never seen a snake at POR. I did encounter one on the sidewalk by the pool at WL but it didn't want any more to do with me than I wanted with him. I really wouldn't worry about it. They generally don't want to be near all those people. Just watch where you step but don't let it ruin your trip. Chances are you'll never see one.

You do realize FL is nothing more than one big swamp, right? There are snakes, lizards, alligators, snapping turtles, huge water bugs and other assorted things to make you go, ewwwww.

The only thing you can do to avoid seeing one is to stay inside. Maybe you can go to a hypnotist to help you with your phobia??

If you want to attempt to be out and about, I would keep out of the grass, keep away from the bushes and rocks, stay out of the woods and watch where I was walking as they may slither out of the grass to go from point a to point b. While I've never seen one in the parks (not alive and freely moving amongst the guests, any way), I used to see quite a few of them around SoG.

I have the same phobia. I've never seen one, thankfully, but I do keep my eyes peeled especially when I'm at the Poly. It just seems to me, and I may be wrong, that all that vegetation is the perfect hiding spot. I also avoid Fort Wilderness.

I am exactly the same way! :scared1: We stayed at POR last year and never came across one. However, while sitting on the benches at MK, in front of Cinderella Castle, my son pointed out one crawling in the shrubs right behind me! Within minutes CM's were there to take the thing away. I can't look at them on TV, touch a page with a picture of them in a book...Nothing! Just thinking about them makes my knees weak!

Thank goodness. I thought I was the only weird person that can not look at snakes on T.V., nor touch a page of a book/magazine that has one on it. I literally start to twitch if I see one.

Well, in answer to your question, up until last year I had (LUCKILY) never seen a snake. However, on our visit last year I did see one at AK when I was walking off the Dinosaur ride. It was probably about 3 to 4 feet long and all black. I made a HUGE scene and even made a little girl cry. Boy, did I feel horrible. Then a couple of days later, we were walking to the Petting Zoo part of AK and I saw a snake crossing sign (which I totally spazzed out about). No sooner did I say, "I hope we don't see one", when everyone in front of us stopped to let a snake cross. From that point on, my trip was all about snakes. Everywhere we went I was constantly scanning the ground left to right, right to left in hopes of not seeing one. I about passed out everytime I heard something in the brush/grass.

ooh, me too!!!!!!! :guilty:

In the 15+ years, we have been going to WDW, we have only seen one snake. It was right in front of the counter service restaurant in Morrocco. It wasn't terribly big, maybe 2 ft or so. It drew quite a crowd and I think it was more afraid of us then we were of it.

The only time I've seen a snake was at FW. It was dusk and we were walking back to our cabin from the bus stop. I was teasing my DW about a snake in the road (I really thought was a stick) and as she stepped over it the stick move. We both jumped back at that point. It was a small snake but it scared DW enough.

I've never really recovered from when DS (then about 5) put his rubber snake in my drawer with my undies :scared1: I cannot stand snakes, but have only seen one while at WDW and I went the other way!!! It was at the AKL bus stop. Don't sit on the benches...stand closer to the road. The bugs are bad back there anyway.

There is a REALLY big thead abt snakes siteings over on the Theme park brd. Do a search! I've never seen one at TL, but quite a few people have fished them out of the lazy river at both TL & BB. ;)

I too detest snakes and they scare the you know what out of me! I also can not watch them on TV or see them in books. When we were there in October I didn't see any. I actually didn't even think about them. I would just be alert and not worry too much.

I also wanted to point out that there are a lot of snakes on The Great Movie Ride in the Indiana Jones part. I wasn't scare though because I thought they looked really fake.

We saw a non-poisonous snake at Coronado Springs and have seen large rattlesnakes in orange orchards.

Please remember, though, that snakes have a very important place in the ecosystem. Without the snakes, the rodent population would be out of balance and predatory birds as well as some mammals and fish need snakes to eat.

I hated snakes... until I met centipedes. Yuck!

:umbrella: Bracing for MORE friggin rain!
