I was just wondering if anyone who has stayed at THV has noticed more snakes there than at any other resort, being in the woods and along the river. With a few posts recently about snakes at WDW was just wondering if it is worse at THV. thanks

We didn't see any, but several times we saw exterminator trucks driving around, so perhaps they are being diligent about looking.

Snakes and other critters are everywhere and are more prevalent in areas away from people. Stay on marked paths and don't reach into the bushes.

We stayed at the old THVs and have also had many stays at Fort Wilderness...about as woodsy as you can get at WDW. We never saw any snakes at either resort, although I am sure there were plenty around. I havd no doubt that there are snakes all over WDW property, but we've only seen them at the BCV and Port Orleans Riverside.

We just returned from the Tree House Villas -- it was wonderful -- and did not see any snakes. We were hoping for an opossum or raccoon, but did not see them either. Three bedrooms were great for a family with three kids! Everyone had their own bed.

+1. We were there for 6 days and didn't see one snake.

Many years ago we witnessed the removal of a very large snake from Tom Sawyer's Island. It was approximately 6ft long and 2 -3 inches in diameter. The guys that captured it were very efficient and seemed like they had done it many times before. Recently, we saw a 4 ft alligator ( not the animatronic variety )in the swamp near the where the train goes from frontierland to Mickey's Toon Town Fair. We noticed that the conductors on the train had also seen it and they soon were on their radios (presumably to let someone know about it )

We recently saw a 4 ft. alligator as we walked along the boardwalk in Frontierland. I really thought it was animatonic, but no...we told the CM who seemed to say "Oh it's back!" There are probably 100s of them around.

There are alligators just about anywhere in Florida where there's water, and WDW is no exception. With any alligator at WDW, regardless of size, I'd assume that some moron has fed the animal and it is therefore dangerous. Just FYI, alligators are somewhat faster than humans and a LOT quicker, so stay 15 feet or so away and don't feed or tease them.

WDW is heavily wooded and there are a lot of snakes, but you probably won't see one. Snakes are the critter that scares people, but they are easily the least dangerous. They tend to avoid people, and most of them (but not all) will flee if they see you. As mentioned above, stay on paths and don't stick your hands into plants and you'll be fine.

Racoons and possums are around, and we see them often. Possums can hurt you, but they're much more likely to flee. Slowly...possums are waddlers, not runners.

Racoons, on the other hand, are curious (again, especially so if they've been fed -- which rest assured, they have been) and will approach you. Racoons are cute, but they do bite, and sometimes carry rabies. They also are very quick. Just a day or two ago, a 74 year-old woman was attacked by several racoons in nearby Lakeland and badly injured. A police spokesman said, "She didn't have a lot of little bites -- she was fileted!"

The best rule with any wildlife is to enjoy them from a distance and leave them alone.

We saw a water mocassin at All star Sports years ago, Twice. We were unloading the car. That rascal had to cross the path in front of us, twice. We told security. He was going to bushes both times. I, now always keep my eyes open.

A few years ago near the OKW HH a cast member stopped me from going further on the sidewalk because there was a poisonous, multi-colored snake right on the sidewalk! Glad he was there to warn us!

Last year we encountered a 3 foot snake in the English Tea Garden in England (WS). There was already an animal control CM on the scene, but had not acted yet. It was removed carefully without fanfare.

I assume it did not have a ticket.

This is good news regarding THV as I have one booked for 6\10. Was a little concerned because of 2 children. But it sounds like there is no reason to be more concerned here than anywhere else at Disney. I try to keep a watch for these things whenever we are anywhere in Disney. Thanks all

I saw a snake just off of the walkway going from the international gate back towards BCV a few years ago. It was a black snake and a pretty good sized one.

I'm glad about the snakes and not seeing many at the THV. I've had the talk with my kids the last couple of nights about snakes and staying away from them. Living in WI we have no harmful snakes and all summer long we are yelling at the kids to stop finding and bring home snakes. I HATE SNAKES:scared1: I will be reminding them some more that the snakes in Florida are not like the snakes here.

We were at Pop at the end of August and were on the walk-way when my husband almost stepped on a huge black snake in the middle of the walk way! All of us including the snake were quite startled. It slithered into the bushes. I was surprised because we were almost to the hippy dippy pool area, and it seemed too busy for a snake to actually be on the walk-way in the middle of the resort.

From then on, I was always looking around and would try to avoid that area.
