Uuugghhh! I'm terrified of snakes? Anybody else with the same phobia? Last trip I almost jumped off the parking lot tram because a kid in front of us started waving around one of the rubber cobras.

What attractions and areas should I avoid?

Back in Nov 2004, I saw one swimming in the Wilderness Lodge Pool!!  I was just about to jump in, when some kind people warned me! This was late at night, around 11:30. Some Disney wildlife guys came and caught the snake and took him away in a white sack! Whew! They said it was a brown banded water snake.

Even so, I sort of like snakes, so I thought it was cool to see it! :)

To the OP: Hope you aren't staying at Wilderness Lodge .....!

I also seen black racer snakes while bike riding at Fort Wildnesness!

Um.. when we were at the Animal Kingdom last week, we were leaving Dinoland and a rat snake went right across the ground and crossed over my foot. LOL that snake caused the biggest lines I saw at AK all day. haha

Umm - spied the "trappers" outside my balcony at WL awhile ago with the trusty snake stick and burlap bag - I kid you not!!! I had also heard on that same trip that there was one in the pool a few days earlier, as already mentioned.

I am so happy that there is still nature in the wild at WDW despite all the building, cleaning, renovating, etc.

BUT - just stay away from those attractions mentioned and you will be fine. Just understand that snakes are around. They will not hurt you - sorry, no cobras!!!

Nope, not staying at WL. I figured out last trip to just avoid Animal Kingdom totally. MGM Great Movie Ride and near the Indiana Jones stunt show are off limits. There is a huge one in the Energy ride at Epcot. MK has one on the train near Frontierland I think. HISTA I knew about. And the Fantasmic one caught me off guard once.

Whew, never thought about live ones being there! I know they are fake and can't hurt me but I am terrifid all the same. I had a big sister and cousing who used to startle me with them alot so now I have this intense and irrational fear.

I was thinking of posting the photo here that I have of the snake in the Wilderness Lodge pool, but seeing your past experiences with snakes, probably a bad idea!!!! :teeth:

We saw one last year on Tom Sawyer's Island. That will be the last time at Tom Sawyer's Island for us - DH and I are both terrified of snakes. What's up with the Great Movie Ride and Fantasmic = are they breeding grounds for snakes also. We also saw the "snake catchers" last year on the waterway that the boat from MGM to YC/BC, BWI uses. DH and I both looked at each other and went - uh, oh!

GMR - a whole room filled with rubber and animatronic snakes

Thanks - I can deal with rubber or animated snakes, its the real ones that make me shiver. I thought I was going to miss out on one of my favorites, I still love GMR. What about Fantasmic?

For goodness sake, people, you're in Florida and snakes live in Florida! Avoiding a certain park or Tom Sawyer's island or just Wilderness Lodge isn't quite enough...You'd be better off to stay home! I'm not a snake lover but in the over 30 years I've been coming down here I've seen them more than once or twice. A year or so ago at Blizzard Beach, climbing the steps for one of the slides, a black snake slithered right over my foot. I was happy to note that he (or she) was more terrified than I was! BTW, don't forget about the alligator sightings around Tom's island and other WDW locations, too!

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Indiana Jones scene! :scared1:

BabiesX2, if you should ever visit Disneyland in California, be sure to avoid the Indiana Jones ride. Riders are menaced by a giant, hissing animatronic cobra! I had to close my eyes on that part.

Ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss

We had one crawling on the railing of our balcony at AKL in June! I had to get a CM who came and got it(by then is was crawling down the outside of the stairwell). I'm also not a fan, but I got some good pics, which I'd post if my laptop was working!)

I'm also terrified of snakes. I live in Louisiana, so I've learned to deal with them (but still don't like them).

I've never seen a live snake in one of the parks at WDW, but I keep my eyes peeled for them ( I know the kind of places they like to hide out). We have seen live ones at EVERY SINGLE WDW resort we've stayed at. We're used to always having to watch where we walk and know to avoid certain places, so we're rarely startled by one.

I'm also pretty good at judging from a safe distance whether or not they're poisonous. Believe it or not, it can make a difference in your reaction to them.

The fake snakes in the attractions don't bother me that much. I pretty much know where all of them are and I can close my eyes if I need to. Having had to deal with so many live ones in my lifetime really makes the fake ones seem kinda silly.

Ok...I have to ask...I am also terrified of snakes...you say you know where they like to hang out (at the resorts, etc) and where to be careful/not walk...where are these locations? I have seen one snake at Blizzard Beach (being picked up with the catcher by the CM), and that was more than enough!

Definitely avoid Honey I Shrunk the Audience and Fantasmic! (But go to Fantasmic anyway -- keep telling yourself "those are just people in a costume)

Don't forget the Jungle Cruise! There's a whole temple full of snakes there!

As far as real ones, we've seen quite a few at the water parks. On more than a few occasions we've seen CMs fishing them out of the lazy rivers at both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach.

It doesn't really bother me. I mean, it's Florida. I figure a snake or two is to be expected. :confused3 I've never head about anybody being bitten by a poisonous snake at Disney World, so I don't figure it's a big concern.

My DD13 is TERRIFIED of snakes. She was ok at Fantasmic..it's so far away. But we avoided Honey I Shrunk the Audience. She won't look at pictures of snakes and she hates the fake snakes,,which her lovely siblings torture her with! We once went to a museum that had a "stuffed" (or whatever they do to reptiles) snake and she refused to goin to that room. I don't really know where her fear came from. I don't like snakes but I can tolerate their presence, so it didn't come from me!
Kimba
By the way we did do The Great Movie Ride, she just put her head down and refused to look in the snake room! SNAKES...why does there have to be snakes!! :rotfl2:
