Snake in Resort Room?

Although not onsite, we had a snake in our shower! :scared1:

I obviously knew this pic would be a snake and know I hate snakes, yet I click on it :crazy2:! I like to think I'm trying to desensitize myself at looking at some harmless pics, but this one with it's head all looking out in the air did not work well :faint:!

If you go to Search and type in Snake in Contemporary you can find the thread that was the Unplugged Podcast back in October.

So much for thinking it was just more nature oriented areas like Ft. Wildnerness. Nothing could be more sleek and modern than the Contemporary and that is not the environment that one would imagine a snake would be drawn too. Looks like you're not completely snake free even on upper floors! Yipes!! I however, will now always ask for upper floor. Even so... with all our Disney trips, I'm always on the lookout for aligators. Snakes I didn't think of. My kids were in their swim suits running through the sprinklers in the grassy area next to the golf course at SSR! :scared:

We saw this right outside the bathrooms by the Hoop De Doo Review. My son was leaning against the wall where the snake was slithering and screamed. I looked over and this is what was there:

eeck!!!! That is really yuck!

We were in AK last October and there was a big crowd around a small, black snack on one of the bridges. I turned around and saw a calvery of cast members descending on the area to handle the situation! My son, who looked at the snake at closer range then I would ever dream of going, said the snake was injured. Even though I am phobic of snakes, I still felt bad that there was an animal suffering.

Ever since I have read these snake threads, I am constantly looking for them on property, I wish I was back in the 'ignorantly informed about snakes at WDW' days!

Another poster mentioned looking at the threads to 'de-sensitize', that has really helped me. I think I would still freak out if I spotted one, but maybe I won't scream bloody murder and run like I used to when I saw them as a child!

Love this, it is so funny. I am from Australia and live near a national park so we have had a few in the yard at times and once on our kitchen window....now that was not nice. But I have a friend who lives around the corner and she keeps a shovel near her back door as her cat kindly brings half dead brown snakes to her back door and leaves them there. Of course she picks up the shovel and bashes them over the head!!!! Brown snakes are like deadly if they bite and here she is bashing it. We are both nurses as well and should know better but it is so funny to see her doing it.
+1 - totally understand that! :)

On snakes being on higher floors, at least in Australia it isn't uncommon for a bird, probably a kookaburra to pick up a snake as food and take it back up a tree/to it's nest. That would be a most likely way for one to get up to a higher floor. And that is how I ended up having a run in with a red-belly black snake (venemous native Australian snake) a few years back.

We're staying at POFQ later this year and I'm hoping to see an alligator in the river. And I appreciate the pre warnings about snakes being in the bushes etc.

I am petrified of snakes and have always been conscious of their presence at WDW. The one time I stayed on-site, it was at CB and I constantly looked around when I was walking on the paths. That is one of the reasons I really want to stay in Deluxe this time....it's a lot less likely that a snake will get in to one of the rooms, unless it's on the ground floor or has a balcony/patio.

Seems like the Contemporary was a one time thing and a very rare occurrence, since no one else has reported seeing one in a Deluxe room (that's not the ground floor) since that incident.

However, I am petrified of snakes and am actually thinking of switching from WL/CSR split stay to the AKL for my stay since there seem to be very few reports of any snakes there and the WL seems to have a lot, especially in the pool area, which really freaks me out.

Keep to the walkways and you should be fine. We stayed at POFQ in October last year and saw two black snakes, possibly about 3 ft long. My DD nearly stood on one and I yelled at her. As she turned and ran away the snake whipped around and slithered away. It was just to the side of the path as we came down the stairs from our room. THere was another snake which looked the same which was coiled with its head raised and just sat there near where we were waiting for a bus to the parks. of course we repositioned ourselves :lmao: There was some fascinated guy who went right up to it to take pictures. I would mind less if I knew what it was, but I am not familiar with the Florida snakes (not that I want to be) and did not know if it was venomous. THerefore I had to treat it as though it was.

I saw on the news that Florida is having problems with pythons because people who bought them as pets were letting them go when they got to big and now there is a real problem. :)

Why anyone would do that is beyond me! :confused3
That is in the Everglades. People can be so irresponsible when it comes to pets and will dump them out. Living 5 miles east of the Everglades, snakes are a constant concern.

The words 'cute' and 'snake' NEVER should be seen together!!!

I am 100% with you on that one :thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

However I would love to point out that in stark contrast to snakes .... the pics in your signature ARE very very cute!!! :)

It's a cornsnake, i have 2 the same color. Very harmless as they don't have fangs, thier defense in to pee[musk] nasty but not at all a risk. Atleast with them around mice aren't and thier bite hurt!

EWEEWWWW! Maybe it's not poisonous - but it sure LOOKS nasty! I would have had a heart attack!

Yes and all the considerate posters who keep quoting the pic have caused this snake to jump out at us several times when scrolling down the page ..... Please, no more quotes of the pic :worship:

I live in NYC, so I know next to nothing about snakes (the only ones here are the lawyers and bankers).

:lmao:

The ones to worry about are the water moccasins - you may want to Google that one and faniliarize yourself with what they look like.

Actually, I am sure others will feel the same way, but I would rather not have to see them if I can help it. :scared1: A description would with some key ID features would be preferable, if anyone cares to volunteer.

Most snakes have a triangular shape head, and water moccasins do too. Water Moccasin is a generic name for it, as it actually means water snake. Cottonmouth is the more appropriate name for this poisonous snake, as it describes the inside white color of his mouth. However, you sure don't want to get close enough to this poisonous snake to find out if it's mouth is white inside. They look fairly similar to the indigo snake or black racer, which are not poisonous. Can really only tell them apart if you are close up to the snake.

The Juevenile cotton mouth looks totally different from the mature one.
