Snake in Resort Room?

We had a small snake in our ground-floor BWV room, I think it was back in 2005 (I searched in vain for the picture). We had left the patio door open as we sat outside, so that must be how it got in. It wasn't discovered until I went to the bathroom in the morning...I actually thought it was my son's small plastic toy snake. I almost picked it up, until I remembered he didn't bring it along on the trip!!
First I woke my husband, then I called the front desk. They sent a guy to retrieve it...it was only about 6 inches long but the thought of this thing slithering across the floor as we slept was really the disturbing part!! We don't leave doors open anymore!

I have had a couple of snake sitings in WDW.

The first was in WS. I was watching the train in Germany and there was a 4-5 foot black snake hanging out in between all of the buildings. It looked like a bad horror movie from the past. Like the Blob takes on Tokyo or something like that.

The second was at POFQ. I saw 2 black snakes in the courtyard between bldgs 5 and 6 sunny themselves in the strange looking grass.

And, at OKW at the private pool closest to the River (way in the back by 56) I saw a large fat snake. At first I thought it was a black snake until I saw how large it was. Needless to say, I watched it for a few minutes and it took off into the brush that leads to the River area.

There was an alligator at the Beach Club when I was there back in May...as long as people don't feed them, they'll just move along looking for better habitat.

There's an alligator at CSR, in fact I think there's two now.

why? why do those of us with real snake phobias gravitate to reading things and watching things about snakes? why? is there a phsychologist out there with an answer? I am so mad at myself for my phobic curiousity (I made that term up!) As Pete should say, 'stay out of the damn lakes, bushes, grass, sand, natural areas, and keep your eyes on the ground ahead of you!'. Off to bed to have nightmares (as a snake phobic, anytime I think of them or see one on tv, picture, etc., I have a bad dream about it! UGH!) I am not reading this anymore!!!

WOW!!!! That is AMAZING to seeee!!!!!!

A little scary! but wow! we don't have them here. so when we went to the states I kept my eye out for anything cool like that. The only animal we did see was a small little cute snake at Typhoon Lagoon, and a raccoon that jumped out of the garbage can at us. And, of course, rabbit's and lizzards.

FYI, gators snack on snakes. I live on a lake with several small gators behind my house and I've only seen one snake in the water in 5 years.

I haven't gone through this entire thread, but at some point probably read bits and pieces...Not sure if someone posted about the Aligator at Splash Mountain, looks like this has happened there a few times and you can see those videos on You Tube:

FYI, If link doesn't work just search "Splash Mountain Aligator"...

Through the years its also been known about inspectors going through Big Thunder Mountain and finding snakes there, not sure if thats just a rumor or true. For many years, At the Port Orleans boat dock there was a snake in the river that basically just coiled itself around some of the weeds/bushes. I would presume its long gone since its been about 10-15 years since I saw it last, and the boat driver stated it had been there for 7 years already and he saw it get bigger and bigger every year. Very easy to see also, just had to look down from the boat dock and couldn't miss it. The Walt Disney World resort is one big swamp land so your bound to see snakes somewhere around there, imagine trying to excavate the area when they first started building it, not a job I would want...

I've seen small gators in the Magic Kingdom near Splash Mountain, a snake in the Blizzard Beach lazy river, and a rat ran across my path at Pop Century one year.
The small gators are enough to keep me away from Tom Sawyer Island for the rest of my life. I can't imagine ever getting on those rafts again. My imagination is huge and definitely gets the best of me.

My wife and I had one in our bed while in disney. That's what I mean :scared1::scared1:

Ok, I haven't gone through this entire thread yet (I think I'll need about three days LOL) but one thing I'm wondering: When you found the snake in your bed, did you see a lump under the covers before you opened the bed? I mean, could you TELL there was a snake there.. or well, I guess no one would assume it was a snake, but were you thinking, "I wonder what that bump is?"

Or did you not see it, and get a horribly nasty surprise when you opened the bed? And how far down was it??

Also.. to those who've mentioned the idea of a snake crawling into bed with people.. (As if finding one in a bed wasn't bad enough) Does that really happen? What are the odds? I mean, if snakes are supposedly so afraid of humans??

OMG seriously.. some of this thread is really funny.. and some is completely giving me the creeps! It really is like a train wreck.. don't want to look, but just can't help oneself, you know???

I would sh*& a ring around myself if I found a snake in my room!!

I agree about this thread....don't want to read....BUT CANNOT HELP MYSELF! :)

Scary! And we are staying @ POFQ in June! Looks like a lot of snakes around!! Yikes!

Ok, now I'm really freaked.....snakes in the bed! :scared1: After reading this whole thread I feel like things are crawling all over me.

I have seen three snakes at WL all the same trip. Two were on the ramp exiting from the bus stop going in towards the game room. The other was being removed from the pool filter - ick! I don't like them and would rather not see them, but can somewhat handle if they are seen from a distance on the sidewalk. Once they are in my room, I can't deal. I'll never have a good nights sleep in a Disney resort room again.

Oh good Lord, THIS THREAD. I can't unread it. Noooooooo!

I would have never thought about snakes or-- God forbid, no freakin way, noooo-- alligators at Disney World. Now if I ever get to return, I will ONLY think about snakes and (ohgodohdeargodno) alligators.

I'm afraid to go to bed now because I have a sudden irrational fear that snakes will crawl on me during the night.

It would make my sons' week if we saw an alligator! Mommy would not be quite as thrilled.

Ok this just FREAKS me out! BTW snakes do climb at least in South Dakota. A few years back we were caretakers of a Victorian house museum and lived on the second floor. Our central air system was on the second floor roof right near our bedroom window. The air conditioner guys came to fix it because all of a sudden it did not work. Well here I am outside watering plants when all of a sudden I hear the guy on the roof screaming obscenities. Apparently a snake had laid eggs up there, they hatched and there were tons of snakes in our unit. All I could think of for weeks was that we slept with our windows open no screens with that snake den right there.
Another note my grandfather was a house sider and roofer. He told numerous stories and took pics of siding that he would do near a river community in CT where the snakes would be all up in the siding of the house when he tore it off

Oh please don't tell me any more!!!

The thought of all those snakes & your windows open gives me the creeps!

And your poor grandfather - if I ever saw anything like that, I wouldn't be around to tell about it!!

Why did I have to look at this thread....
I am thankfull that we havn't seen a snake at Disney, but you can bet now the hubby will be checking the room. I have learned to deal with the spiders and bugs.....but I HATE snakes.

Okay... this thread was started in March of '09 and died out in Sept. '09.

WHO is responsible for "bumping" this up?

I didn't want to see this! :scared1:

I'm afraid of the snakes, (and terrified of spiders) but I think the gators are kinda cute.
