Snake in Resort Room?

My oldest DD saw a LARGE black snake near our building, 38, last week at POR. I asked one of the maintenance people about seeing snakes there and he said he sees AT LEAST one a day. Well, there is a lot of water there.

We also saw a gator this trip too. It was in one of the ponds on the left when you pull out of the resort and go to the left. It was NOT SMALL.

Wow

:scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:
I'm VERY disturbed by your post!!!!! :scared:

I don't want to alarm you at all, but you should be on the lookout. In all of my trips to Disney and I am a native Floridian that went in 1971 when it opened and have been too many times to even count, I have only had this happen once and it wasn't even to me. So, don't panic, please. Just be on the lookout and if you want a bell captain to check for you.... then do it :) It will make you feel better and worst thing for him, he might get a little giggle out of it :) See, you might spread some magic for him :)

:goodvibes

I don't know why I read this whole thread. I can't say I hate snakes because if I see one by accident I'll run screaming like a banshee but then after I gain control of my bodily functions I will go back to look at it unless I feel it is venomous that is. I will even hold one if someone hands one to me. Just the same I just called my DD and told her to request a top floor room at POFQ for our trip in September. I can handle lizards and toads in the room( I had them in the house we rented our last trip down) but snakes in the room? I'd be outside looking in until they took it away.

We just got back a few days ago. Dh and I are both terrified of snakes. I was especially freaking out because we had a 1st floor room at BC, with lots of foliage. I made DH do a "snake check" every morning before I would sit on the patio. That was fine, no snake spottings.

However, when we were coming back from the pool one day ds was lagging behind. Dh was waiting for him and I was ahead with the girls. A few minutes later I saw ds racing towards the room, white as a ghost. Apparently a large black snake had crossed right in front of him. It was on the BC walkway, by the back of the laundry room, near the outdoor bathrooms. Now he is a converted snakeaphobic. Needless to say we were always looking down when we walked anywhere in Disney!

My mom stepped right over a small black snake coming off the bus at POFQ last week. Snake was clearly waiting more patiently for the bus than the peopel. I told her many steps later what had happened. Didn't want to create a Nana-shaped hole in the FQ bus stop pavillion.

I cannot read these snake posts with my feet on the floor. I'm sitting on them now. I think Disney needs to do some snake wrangling then take them somewhere like the Everglades to mingle with their own kind. Is it possible they are becoming over populated (like the deer here in Indiana)? I'll soon be staying at WL, where I've seen more snakes than anyplace else in my life. I'll let you know if I see any. :scared:

Really Really REALLY REALLY HATE that I read this thread. HATE that I went from page to page to page.....what is wrong with me????
I am going to do a complete room check TOP to BOTTOM before we settle in and needless to say it will not be on the ground floor.

kind of wondered that myself if they weren't becoming a problem. I jsut know that if I see one my vaction will be done. I will be checking my room top to bottom every day and night. I even thought of going to the hardware store to get some snake relep for our room

Is there such a thing as snake repellent? For sure I'm taking my flashlight to check the room and maybe a tiny one to light my path at night. I'm not going to worry about them or let the thought ruin my vacation though. I thought about setting a bowl of Purina snake chow a little ways away from my door so they will eat that and not want to come in my room - or am I thinking of bears? :)

OMG, why why why did I decide to read this thread!?!? :scared1: I'm absolutely terrified of snakes, and as someone wrote up there, I'm sitting on my feet right now, JUST in case!!

I've never even thought about snakes being at WDW until now and now I'm gonna definitely be on the lookout as I walk around the resort in October!!!

Just so MAYBE I'll feel better, has anyone looked long enough to see what kind they are? Are they poisonous??
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

Yes, there are venomous snakes at Disney. I hesitated positng this so as not to freak people out, but my son was bitten by a water moccasin at CBR toward the end of May. We were walking to the bus, he dropped a toy in some landscaping, bent down to pick it up without ever leaving the sidewalk, and was bitten three time on the finger. At no time did he provoke the snake, we didn't even see the darn thing until after he started screaming that something bit him. Three days in the pediatric intensive care unit and 12 vials of anitvenin later, he is doing well, although he still sleeps more than usual. Just be careful!!

I am so sorry this happened to your son. I'm glad he is doing well. I really think this is a problem that Disney needs to address. It's one thing to see a black snake near water but a COMPLETELY different thing to have a poisonous one bite.

We were not even near the lake when it happened, but close to the parking lot. I know they have signs up about alligators, I think they need signs up about snakes. In Disney's defense, they were AMAZING after the incident, but it is a memory, with possible long term physical effects, that my 7 year old son will have for a lifetime

I'm sorry this happened to your son, but great to hear to disney was Amazing after it happened. And hey it's a story your son can tell when he is older

hmm... Not a massive fan of snakes, but I'm not as bad as my mum. She nearly passed out on the Great Movie RIde when you go through the Indiana Jones scene, I am not telling her about this thread! Hopefully I won't see any at Pop in two weeks, I will freak out especially if it's in the room!!

20+ trips to WDW and I have yet to see a snake. And I do look for them. I have no issue with snakes...but I don't want to put my foot down on one!! So, my eyes are always open and looking for them. I've walked around POP next to the lake...figure that would be a spot to be on the look-out, but no sightings. Same thing at all the other resorts.
You just have to be aware of your surroundings. Knowing that there are snakes there should be enough to warn you to be aware.
The poster who's ds got bitten by the water moccasin just shows us to be aware. There is a reason not to go traipsing through undergrowth...no, I am not saying she or her ds did that. But it bears saying. I have seen tons of guests taking 'shortcuts' to other sidewalks, through undergrowth. Yikes...do they know what could be in there?? Evidently not.

I'm heading to WDW in late Nov with a friend who hasn't been there since before AK was built. We are staying one night at VAKL...she is terrified there will be snakes. Not sure why that resort should have snakes while BWV doesn't. Anyway....she is terrified that she will run into a snake during our stay at WDW. While I certainly don't have an issue with the snakes, here's hoping the critters stay undercover while we're there.

I have family staying at CBR in 20 days and they asked if they should move to another resort after what happened to my son. I told them absolutely not. How many people stay on property each year and never even see a snake? As other posters have said you just need to be aware. I had actually read this thread before our trip and knew not to let ds go running through the landscaping. Like I said earlier, his feet never left the sidewalk. After he was bitten, I was totally freaked out seeing little kids playing in the landscaping.
