i have a chicken snake that is inhabiting a hole at the entrance of my garage(technically not in my garage but at the entrance). he bothers no one but just sticks his head out while the kids play. my only worry is "she" is guarding some future youngins'. so what should i do...i could kill it easily b/c i actually snuck up to it today to try to catch it so the kids could touch it but my foot wasn't fast enuf to hold him down(suddenly i changed pronouns)(is that a pronoun?) but i know i could get a shovel down quick enuf....

what's the verdict ole wise ones?

I'd probably leave it for now. You can always take action later if it becomes a problem. (Now, if you asked my mom, she would be getting out the WMD's to get rid of it.)

Im not a snake lover by any means. One question....have you seen any mice lately? If not, that might be your answer. Mice love garages and snakes love mice. I would rather deal with one snake that are typically clean than 20 mice that arent clean. If hes not bothering you I would let him be, but if you freak out everytime you see him, well its time for him to go. Sounds like if you were willing to try to step on him then youre not getting the willies too bad;)

I would just let it be. They aren't venomous and as long as the kids don't taunt it, it won't hurt you. I agree with the previous poster, it is probably finding some food source in your garage.

They get pretty big so unless that hole is large, he/she will probably have to move soon anyway.

I think that rat snakes (chicken snake) enjoy hanging out in holes so he/she isn't necessarily taking care of young. Besides, even if it was...they won't stick around to be cared for...they will be on their way to go invade someone else's garage.

I agree! Snakes get a bad rap....they are here for a reason and I'd rather have snakes then rodents...they aren't very protective of their nests either. It really shouldn't be a problem....just leave it alone..if it does become aggressive of course that would be a different issue but I doubt it will!

I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE snakes!!! They freak me out. Any kind. Doesn't matter if they're harmless or not. I'd prolly have a heart attack if I saw one peeking out of a garage or whatnot.

I agree! Not that I like snakes either but I'd rather one snake than mice!! They give me the creeps. Annmarie

I loathe snakes.

I wouldn't kill it. I'd have someone else do it. I despise snakes that much. I can't even look at them. They totally freak me out.

Kill it. Kill it now before it has a chance to launch its evil plan on the world. Snakes are little evil geniuses. You must kill it.

This is a thread for Shep! :teeth:

I once had a Coral in my garage. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: That thing sure was taken out! Thank goodness for great neighbors! :teeth:
