Snake at Haunted Mansion!!!!

Interesting stuff, y'all!

We had a water moccasin living in our backyard (we were built on a creek). DH trapped and killed it... I came outside and he was burying it in the backyard! What the HECK was that for? I guess it was full honors for our dearly departed snake...

Not a snake....but

When DW and I were in Epcot in Jan. we were walking between the two gift shops at the entrance to world showcase. Over by the fence to the lagoon, I saw the biggest mouse. It didn't seem scared or anything. So we gingerly walked over towards it and I took out my camera. It was so tame, it probably would have eaten out of my hand. I don't know if I would let it though, it was huge. So I was about to take a picture of it, when a CM walked up and asked if DW and I would like to get into the picture. Here it is...

We've had quite a few threads on snake sightings throught WDW. I know they're common to the area, but I am the biggest baby about snakes. If I go camping and I'm in the woods-- I can deal w/ them. I feel I'm on their turf then. Thanks to these threads--- I'm always just a bit aware when I go to the waterparks. This way if I do see one it won't ruin my day. I'll have the willy's all day-- but I won't completely freak out.

About 6 years ago we were renting the cutest little house. Twice I seen snakes sunning themselves on the front steps right at the door. We only lasted 3 months there and had to move because I was terrified they'd get in and I was never comfortable there again.

Second incident was about 2 years ago. I was driving home from work and a snake slithered out of the defroster vent of my car. Thankfully I kept my cool long enough to pull off the road. I leaped out of the car and started crying hysterically (I really am very scared of them-- sorry folks they may be harmless but I can't help it). Anyhow, I abandoned the car-- DH came and got the snake out and brought the car back home. To make a long story short I had panic attacks everytime I thought of getting back in the car-- so I made DH trade it in (it was only 2 years old at the time). I still get alittle uneasy every now and then when I'm in the car at night thinking "one" could be in there.

We had a big rat run across our feet afew years ago at All Star Music in the grassy area in front of the main entrance. It is the place to stand as you walk towards the parking area. I was told "rats"( by CM's) are very common there because it is where the sewer openings are. they parked a cleaning truck there for several days so people couldn't cut through. Needless to say it was our last visit there.

First off, a big thanks to the poster who warned that snake pictures were to follow. This should be a new amendment to the US Constitution or a safety law - a "warning snake pictures follow" disclaimer much like the please extinguish cigarette before pumping gas. Even a picture of one scares the daylights out of me. I had a tramatic snake experience as a child and I have a completely irrational fear of them. Give me mice, rats, spiders, lizards, whatever animal or vermin you wanna toss at me. But a snake? I don't trust any animal without legs.

The bench story sent me whimpering to my fiance, unable to mumble anything but "I don't want to sit on a bench, I don't want to sit on a bench" over and over causing him to think that perhaps I've had some sort of mental breakdown. He now understands that he must clear the area of all serpants before I will sit. If from July 6 to 16 you see the woman below running, screaming and taking a full blown panic attack (as has happened at the zoo with small children pointing and laughing), it's me. Cover your children's ears, as I can't control the words that may be coming out of my mouth if I would happen to encounter a sliding, slithering, legless beast.

We saw a rat at Epcot in December over by the big Christmas tree---the kids said they came to see the "Mouse" not a stupid rat! :teeth:

We saw one slithering between the tombstones at the entrance to the Haunted Mansion. Needless to say, when they turned out the lights at the beginning of the ride, we were more spooked than ever.

OMG! Now I am afraid that will happen to me! I would die right then and there! I hate snakes and live in FL and I have them in my apt. complex(harmless)Yikes! havent seen any gators or snakes at WDW..yet!

Forgot to add... there is a highway rest stop right off of Interstate 4 just west of WDW. Stopped there last yr and there was a sign warning of venomous snakes in the area, so ill bet there are some on WDW property too. UGH!

We sat at the bus stop at CR and an armadillo played under the bench. And we also stayed at AS Movies and an armadillo hunted around in the grass outside of our room. All the kids at the hotel had fun with him. Of course we have seen the BC Gator of the month on many occasions. And what's with all the turkeys around the kingdom lately? The funniest is at Thanksgiving last year. We saw all of these turkeys running all over. Needless to say there was a lot of narration going on. Like, "ha, ha, I'm free, I'm free. Dang it, where did that bus come from?". Kind of reminded me of the old man in the square in the Hunchback movie. :teeth:

Lucyanna_girl... thank you for the warning. It's very much appreciated. I can't stand snakes. Now, I have never seen a snake at WDW. Now frogs, lizards, and rabbits are another story. But living in FL, I am used to the lizards and frogs. Frogs freak me out though. Ewww....

We saw a small snake sunning on the walkway between espn club and the bridge. My dear son wanted to catch it but I thought his head looked like a triangle. My dad used to tell us the more triangular the head the more poisionous don't know so we didn't touch. :confused3

We've had small alligators (2-3 ft) found in the parking lot where I live, hiding under cars, on a couple of occassions! My apartment complex has a number of small lakes, and is right on the river, so we see the gators all the time in the water.

Thanks for the snake warning! I used to live in Florida and I've seen my fair share of snakes, but I am still terrified of them! :faint: :scared: If I see one this summer at WDW, I will be running away as fast as I can! :moped:

The stripes ran lenghtwise down the snake. Believe me, We live in Louisiana so a snake is not an unusual sight, it was just the surprise of it crawling up on the back of our bench in such a busy place. The other reason I decided to post is because of my sweet little two and one half year old Grandson, Brier. He recently saw a television show about snakes and is very interested in them. Our entire family is constantly telling him if he sees a snake Not to touch it but to run to Mama or Daddy because water mocasons are very common snakes in our area and they are dangerous. I'm not trying to give snakes a bad rep, only warn people that they might run into them in a place they might not expect.
Snakes, spiders, mosquitos and gators! Oh the joys of living in Louisiana :wave2:

DS4 and I were leaving for swimming lessons a few weeks ago and we had a snake coiled up behind my tire under the carport. I don't remember what it was but luckily it was not poisonous. Water moccasins :scared1: When it floods they are everywhere.
