snacks or light meal when flying

I haven't flown lately, but I always used to pack two separate quart bags with snacks. One included things with nuts, like peanut butter crackers, because all three of us liked them, and they held us over well until we landed. The other had something like Slim Jims - still protein, but "back-up" due to the high sodium, in case there was a peanut allergy announcement on the flight. Both bags had fruit snacks or fruit leather as well.

For sure!! My DH is a police officer and one year we took a backpack as our carryon that he had used for work. When we got to Disney and I was switching the stuff out to use it as our park bag, I found a Ziploc full of bullets in the bottom of the bag. No one had even batted an eye as we went through security with that.

Yeah, some stuff gets missed, but they find a lot of loaded guns in carryons at the DC airports that people claim they 'forgot' they had. Meanwhile I had a 2 lb weight in a carryon for my PT exercises, and that got flagged in Orlando (but not Reagan)

If you don't think you will have enough time to shop for food at the connecting airport, I would suggest buying something after you pass security at your departure airport. Most airports I have been in have various choices of salads/sandwiches/etc you can eat on the plane. I never bring perishable foods from home (too much hassle), can you keep them safely cold/etc. and might cause a security issues going through TSA. I prefer to bring non-perishable snacks (peanuts, granola bars, etc.) you can carryon with you.

Food on most flights is unpredictable and either involves an extra charge or might be choices you don't find appealing. Often they serve a tiny bag of pretzels as a 'snack'. Beverages are likely to be served by most airlines on longer flights, but you could also buy something at the airport. I find you need to plan ahead relating to what you want to eat and shouldn't depend on whatever they might offer during the flight. I see a lot of people seated around me during a flight who have made ZERO plan for snacks/meals and seem to act like this is their first time on an airplane.

We usually bring fruit like bananas (not too ripe) or apples, granola bars, some single serving snacks in cups that won't get crushed - like cheezits or pringle packs. Maybe some almonds. M&Ms for the kids. If we have time to grab a sandwich at the airport, great, if not, we just make do with the snacks and whatever else they hand out. Our last flight was a 5 hour early morning flight and I saw many people order breakfast (for a fee) on the plane. Not sure what exactly it was. It's so nice on the international flights how they just give you a meal (and wine) and you don't have to worry about it.
