Snacks in Airport

wow we always take those chewy fruit snacks with us but have never had them taken away

We usually take: Sandwiches and chips, berries (put them in a tupperware like container and they dont get squished). Yogurt covered pretzels are good. And we always buy a couple bottles of water post security. Sometimes we take baby carrots. I saw someone take sliced up sweet bell peppers (in a tupperware like container). They looked so good.

We brought cheese and crackers in a soft sided cooler and use frozen grapes to keep it cold. I once saw a family ahead of us have their chewy fruit snacks taken away, you know that betty Crocker kind in the shape of cartoons? Don't know why. Their little boy seemed a little sad about it. I was busy getting our stuff on the belt so I didn't catch the reason.

That shouldn't have happened, as those are fine to take through security.

I found one thing a few months ago on the TSA website that I can't believe I had missed for all these years. You can take a frozen bottle of water as long as it is frozen solid. It can't be mushy. Having the frozen bottle to keep things cool helped expand the possibilities for plane food.

The first time I tried taking the frozen bottle through, I sent it through in the lunchbox size cooler. The screener flagged it, but they just took it out of the cooler and ran both through the scanner again. After that, I started pulling it out and putting it into the tub with my baggie of liquids. I have done this three or four times now without any problem.

I bring lota of things. Sandwiches, entire pizzas, basically anything we want to eat on the plane that we disnt have time to eat before the flight. (Or eat at our destination).

I hate buying bottles of water so we travel with empty bottles and fill them after we pass security. Nice not to have to wait for air atewards before having a drink of water.

I did this at BWI and they had a fit. They did let me go but were so mean about it.

I've seen folks have to throw out yogurt cups, so I might avoid those. Other than that, I've never seen food cause a problem.

I buy the single serve Jif To Go containers and put them in my liquids bag in my carry on. I buy them at CVS, Walgreens and our local grocery stores and have never been stopped. They make a new chocolate version as well that I bought to try :)

I've gone through security several times with cakes, cupcakes, etc. I've never had a problem. One TSA agent joked he was going to need a piece of cake in order for us to pass through security. I just make sure my purse is small so the cake will fit next to my purse under the plane seat.

I take that too with a sleeve of ritz crackers and make little peanut butter cracker sandwiches with them. That is basically all I ever have taken, peanut butter and crackers since its something we all will eat.
