We'll be taking our first flying trip w/our kids next month. DDs are ages 5 and 3. I know our 5yo will understand when I tell her she has to swallow to keep her ears from popping, but 3yo probably won't. SO, I want to bring some snacks for them that will help with this. I was thinking some fruit snacks since they're chewy? Does anyone have any good recommendations for toddler-friendly snacks that are good for takeoff and landing? Thanks!

I think that it is the swallowing that helps more than the chewing. We used lollipops with our kids last year. Only problem we had was that our flight got delayed on the runway and we ran out of lollipops before takeoff, lol! So, don't give them out until you are definitely sure you are taking off!

We've flown a ton with both our 5 and 3 year olds. I find that take offs really don't bother them that much, it's the landings. Lollipops are good. We also ask the flight attendants to fill thier sippy cups with water and save that for landing. Gum also works well.

We used suckers and fruit snacks/candy. Seemed to work ok for us. I swear that DS didn't even realize that we were flying! Didn't seem to bother him one bit!

I have a 4 and 2 year old (and 12 and 9) but the 4 year old can have gum and for the 2 year old I bought gummie bears (it was suggested on here somewhere!) I am pretty sure she will do fine with them, I will probably pick up some gummie worms as well, she does good with them. She has had gum before too and did pretty well, but I had to keep reminding her that when she was done to spit it out......

I would say fruit snacks would work as well... I plan on taking fruit snacks, snack bars, gummie bears (maybe worms) some suckers....... gum and I'm not sure what else!

We flew last year with our sons ages 7 and 3. 7yo was fine. Had gum at takeoff and landing and didn't think twice. 3 yo we were kind of stuck. He doesn't like lollipops and can't have gum. What we settled on was red licorice. He loves the flavour, they're very chewy and he doesn't like to eat a lot of it. He had a couple bites, chewed for a while during takeoff and was fine. When landing he was busily chewing the crackers the flight attendants had given him. Sippy cups of water is a great idea as well. Anything to keep the throat and ears moving !

We use the gummie fruit snacks for our kids ages 4 and 9. I get their favorite Disney ones of course!! DS has the Disney Cars ones and I bought DD the Nemo ones. The kids were fine during take off. Only once when landing DD was in alittle pain in her ears.

My daughter eats the gummy snacks too quickly, so we bring Fruit by the Foot We don't normally give it to her, so it's a novelty she's happy to eat.

I also give her a beverage.

Distraction is also key.
