We are flying SW to LAX so no meals and I want to make sure we have snacks because it'a 5+ hours. Give me some suggestions. nothing too messy and I also don't want to be weighted down like a pack mule so nothing too combersome.

Thanks

Goldfish
Cereal bars
Cheerios they make these nice size singles that I usually find on sale for a dollar

For that long a trip I would consider buying maybe sub sandwiches at the airport and do a light meal on the plane.

when we flew from PWM to LAX I packed blueberries, graham crackers, cheese sandwhiches, and pretzels

I agree with the pp about packing a "lunch". ..

I always bring a soft sided cooler with sandwiches, snacks and fruits for my kids and I. Just watch the liquid / gel rule and make sure you have the appropriate amount of carry-on and personal items per person you will be fine. No pudding, applesauce, etc or condiments (unless they are on the sandwich or under 3oz and in your 3-1-1- ziplock). The small cooler can be a personal item as it should fit under the seat in front of you.

Whatever you like at home works well for flights, IMHO this is not the time for something new! I use frozen grapes or carrots as an ice pack and then purchase drinks after security so we have what we like when we want it and don't have to wait for snack/beverage service.

Definitely thought about doing that as well. Thanks for the suggestions.

I would bring a meal for that long. Our favorite flight meal is:
Bagel (with cream cheese or butter)
goldfish
cheese stick
fruit (apple, clementine, banana)
sweet of some sort - cookie or M&M's

I pack them in paper bags beforehand to make handing them out to each of us easier. Even put the napkins right in there. THen we just buy drinks after security and we're all set.

I would buy a meal to carry on. If you're trying to save money I'd pack a small soft cooler or lunchbag with durable stuff like baby carrots, cheese sticks, fruit, maybe deli meat. And then pretzels or goldfish and a dessert.

This is exactly what we do although sometimes we swap out a bagel for a muffins.

We also carry empty refillable water bottles with us through security and then buy one or 2 drinks and divide them up into our own water bottles. My kids never drink the giant bottles they sell at the airport so it helps to save a little money not having to buy each their own. We end up washing and carrying our own water bottles in Disney too and just divide up a few bottles of water amongst us each time we purchase it so the water is always fresh and cold.

Carrot sticks
goldfish

Often we just get something after security to bring on the plane.

We fly coast-to-coast at least twice a year and I like to pack enough for at least one full meal for DD plus snacks. I have to admit that I am a pack mule, so I probably over-pack, but I'd rather not have a hungry DD.

I usually pack cooked plain pasta (great finger food), cucumber slices, carrot sticks, little cubes of ham, hard boiled eggs, apples, strawberries and some of the other things PPs have mentioned. For snacks, DD loves fruit chewie snacks, freeze dried fruit, japanese rice cracker mix and Pringles (the individual serving sized and they don't get crushed!). I usually sneak in a dum dum lollipop too.

Not sure how old your kidlets are, but I also pack 2 juice boxes (one frozen and one refrigerated) to help keep everything cool and have never had a problem going through security.

Happy eating!
