OK so we are leaving this coming weekend and will be flying AirTran, 1st time flyer's here. After reading this board it is my understanding to take the food (raisins, fruit-roll-ups, cereal, oatmeal, etc.-nothing liquid or gel) that we plan on taking in our carry-on but we have an entire carry-on full of snacks for the boys and quick breakfast stuff for us. Will people look at me like I am crazy to have an entire carry-on full of food with an outfit for everyone and swimming clothes????

No, but even if they did, it would be their problem! :)

Shouldn't be a problem...besides, how would anyone know what was in your bag?? I actually returned home from WDW with 3/4 of a birthday cake in my carryon..and that was all due to it's size. TSA folks did have a moment of 'what the heck is in there' but had a good laugh about it when I explained. You should be just fine.

Are you kidding? That's what carry-ons are for, to provide you with your immediate needs on the airplane and for your immediate needs after landing should your luggage be delayed.

What you propose taking in your carry-on is smart, not strange.

Why would anyone even care what was in your carry-on (except for prohibited items)? Why would you care what some stranger thinks anyway :confused3

I haven't flown since the new rules went into effect on flying.
My kids have serious problems with their ears and need to drink from a straw during take off and landing.... so if we can no longer take liquids on the plane, what do we do???
I used to take juice boxes.... now what?!?!
HELP?

You can purchase drinks past security and take them on the plane. I am not a juice box type of guy, but some airports may carry them. You can always purchase soft drinks from the post-security snack bars and get straws there.
