I want to make some snack mix, along the lines of Chex Mix, to take with us to WDW.

We're not fans of dried fruit; just wondering what everyone puts in theirs? Then, do you just mix it up, or do you season and bake it?

Thanks, Lisa

Snack mix like Chex mix I cook, directions on chex mix package, easy to do in the microwave but then I like to bake if for a while, it makes it crunchier. I put in other cereals like Cheerios, Crispix - basically any nonsweetened ones. I also put in nuts of any type esp salted peanuts. Small pretzels or pretzels stick, small bagel chips etc. are also good. I guess you could put in M&M's if you wanted some taste variety but not until its cooked/baked and cool, then throw them in and toss it well.

I don't put dried fruit in it, that to me is in trail mix which is not cooked, but its great to make up a batch of that to take with you too. I have gone in the hottest months of the year and had no trouble making it with M&M's - they don't melt. There are lots of recipes for trailmix.

Goldfish crackers, sesame sticks, pretzels, wasabi peas (for DH!), peanuts or almonds, etc.

cereal like fruit loops, apple jacks, cookie crisp. The varieties are endless, yet obviously got with something larger, not Rice Krispies or boring like corn flakes!

I love the Muddy Buddy recipe that is on the Rice Chex box and I usually make some to take with us to Disney, but I leave out the peanut butter, because I have a sensitivity to it, sometimes.

We like to create more of a trail mix than chex mix but you can really put in anything you like. We like to put in lots of protein rich items versus too many carbs. We like sunflower seeds, pistachio kernels, cashews, peanuts, etc. We also get different kinds of granola to mix in. If you don't want dried fruits you can add in chocolate chips (not good for summer months) or m&m's like others have said.

Just experiment and have fun with it. It is hard to go wrong if it is stuff you like!

I make Chex Mix with wheat and corn Chex, peanuts, pretzel sticks & plain Goldfish (I'd add in Cheeze-its but DH can't eat cheese). I bake mine in the oven with seasonings... mainly butter, worcesteshire sauce, garlic powder & a couple other seasonings I can't recall off the top of my head.

I made a couple at Christmas, I found a ton of recipes on the chex website, they had ideas I would have never thought of. Out favorite was a lemon white chocolate one!

I combine the following for a non-baked snack mix:

Low fat Cheez-Its or Goldfish
Golden Grahams cereal
pretzels
chocolate chips
raisins
dry roasted peanuts
M&Ms
Cheerios

We put less of the sweet ingredients in. This is great for at home, at the beach, tailgating, etc.
