Smoking Rooms and my complaint

This is why I think in resorts with more than one building at least there should be a smoking *building*.

That really would make great sense. That would make everyone happy! :flower:

Now that's a great idea! Then either "side" wouldn't have to be upset about the other.

I just want to say that your puppy is sooooooo cute!!!!!! I am also a dog lover! I remember when my dog was a pup, he was so cute as well and he is going on 3 years old this August...time flies too fast!

To all-
Ok, the subject of smoking. We stayed at CBR last year and although we were in a non smoking building, when we walked into the room I wanted to die....it reaked of smoke. To the point where I could not stand it especially because I have major allergies. I called mousekeeping right away and told them and they said they'd fix the problem. We went down to OPR for a snack and when we came back mousekeeping was in the room, completely stripping down the bed and giving complete new bed linens, bed spread everything. They also sprayed the room with something that TOTALLY got rid of the smell and we had no problem from then on. I was glad we didn't have to end up switching rooms as we had a great location. I was just aggrivated that someone had the nerve to smoke in a non-smoking room.

I believe I read on one of the other threads on these boards about smoking that smokers have been advised by CM's to go ahead and smoke in non-smoking rooms if there aren't any available at check in.. Perhaps the CM's aren't aware of how difficult it is to remove the smoke odors, but again, it's Disney that needs to enforce their own policies if they hope to keep everyone happy.. :flower:

Sorry if I sound rude but this is a super hot button w/ me.
If you are a smoker there is no reason to book a non-smoking room. I am so glad you are thinking about your DD but what about mine who is outside enjoying fresh air being disturbed (being nice, not what I wanted to post) by the smoke coming over to us.
Yes, Disney would be smart by making entire buildings non-smoking but I am still battling a sinus infection I got 3 weeks at WDW by breathing so much smoke outside my "non-smoking" room.
I would not think WDW would need to post a non-smoking sign on the balcony in a NON-SMOKING room.

Excellent idea, don't know why Disney has not done this yet. Or what about just the top floors being smoking, so at least the smoke drifts upwards?

They do have this at Poly and GF

Disney doesn't post no-smoking rules on the balcony because it's only non-smoking inside. From what I've always been told, smoking is allowed on the grounds outside anywhere most of the resort property, balconies included. Disney has restricted the smoking in the parks, but not at their resorts yet.

Personally I think it's very nice that the OP is trying to be nice to the non-smokers that will be on either side of their room. However, if they want to enjoy a cigerette outside on their balcony I do believe it is their right at this point.

You are absolutley right. I stayed at the CR tower room last year, and I had requested a smoking room. The CM asked if I needed a smoking room and I replied yes please I smoke. She then proceeded to say well I got this great room facing the MK and I was like oh great is it smoking and she said, no but you can just smoke on the balcony!

Now THAT is my kind of resort.

You'd best hope that at some point the all knowing society doesn't decide some personal choice of your's is "in question" -- as you too could be deemed to be part of an intolerant "majority".

When I complained at the WL a couple of years ago about the smoke coming from the next balcony I was told that the balcony was considered part of the room and was non-smoking as well. Made sense to me since it is only accessible from inside the room.

That IS true, it's happened to me -- but I was advised to only smoke on the balcony, not in the room, and to shut the door.

A hearty rolleyes to you too! ;)

When we stayed at the Yacht Club in January our neighbor smoked on the balcony and the staff on the concierge told us that smoking was allowed on the balconies.

Well, I have been told by CM's, if you have a non-smoking room then the balcony is also non-smoking. Part of having a non-smoking room is to enjoy the balcony without smoke.

I *do* think it makes very little sense financially or ethically for Disney to allow smoking *INSIDE* nonsmoking rooms. The smoke damages fabrics and materials which need to be replaced more often as well as retains the compounds that irritate the lungs of asthmatics and others that cannot tolerate smoke.
Smoking on a balcony might irritate me because then I would not be able to use the balcony that I paid for, but at least I could do something about it (shut the door) but it would be *intolerable* for me to sleep in a room that would cause my eyes to swell and redden and my throat to close. I intend on writing to Disney about that! Nonsmoking rooms *especially* those use for special needs populations should *always* be nonsmoking!
And I am suggesting the smoking building idea too! Fair is fair!

Well based on the additional responses here it absolutely positively is a situation that Disney - and only Disney - is responsible for.. Depending on which CM you speak with, you will get a different answer..

So, as I said earlier, take your complaints through the proper channels - Disney Management - rather than implying that smokers are breaking rules that they have been told don't exist.. :flower:

I'm sorry I started such a hot topic here! I totally understand everyone's opinions on smoking on balconies of nonsmoking rooms. Although I tend to feel that as long as its outside, there is less harm than smoking inside, my complaint in all of this was not that I wanted to smoke on the balcony of a nonsmoking room, but rather why is it that I have to pay the price of a courtyard view room, when I want a standard view room! I'd gladly book a smoking room but I don't want to have to be forced to pay extra for it. I think they should have one wing that is entirely smoking and have different prices ranges within it to accommodate everyone. :flower:
