Smoking & POR?

DH smokes outside. I've never been to POR before & am not sure if there are ashtrays in various areas of the resort. Should we request a smoking room even thought DH won't be smoking inside? I would hate to be in a room that stinks, but I don't want us to appear rude if he is smoking outside of a non-smoking room. We are used to staying in places that have balconies so that he can just step outside. Any ideas?

It is very considerate of you to worry about how others will feel about him smoking. I would say even tho he does not smoke inside your best bet to avoid dirty looks and aggravated people is to choose a smoking room. Your dh will probably feel more comfortable too that he does not have to worry about it so much. I think they just redid AB 18 which is a smoking building - so I don't think it could have built up much of a stink yet! LOL

As a mom of children who are very sensitive to smoke, especially my oldest who will sneeze, get watery itchy eyes - it would certainly mean alot to me if you would choose a smoking building! I know we can not avoid it everywhere, but if there was a smoker right next door to us and smoking outside the room regularly - it could be a big deal to us. Thanks for your consideration!'

Thank you so much for your reply. Do you think they have ash trays outside? As nice as I hear the landscaping is, I'd hate for him to not use an ashtray. Thanks.

My father was with me last Sept when I stayed in Bdg 18 at AB. He smokes but did not smoke in the room. At that time there were the round knee high smoker's ashtrays around the area. But they are usually hidden near the stairwells or just plain hidden from view.

What I did for him is take my Styrofoam (not paper) coffee cup with a lid that I had purchased with coffee on the trip and half filled it with water. That way he had a place to "ash" and "put out" but it did not interfere with the other guests if they did not smoke Meaning it wasn't an your face ugly ashtray and did not smell once the cig was put out. Each night he emptied it in the outside cans and brought it in and rinsed it out. This way he smoked but did it as discretely as possible.

Please do not flame me. I have been around the block with my father on smoking. It was a smoking building, but we tried to not infringe on other guests, especially those with children.

I am not a tyrannical or hysterical person, but my father knew if he was caught crunching out a cigarette with his foot anywhere on the ground on Disney property he would be immediately killed!

When we were at POR for Thanksgiving week 2003, we were in a non-smoking room, BUT everytime we left or came in the same couple was sitting on the stairs just a few doors down from us and always smoking. We didnt think they were being very considerate of others--including our 5 and 9 year old (& the 9 year old has a heart condition). THANKS for being kind and thinking of others!!
