Smoking Locations At Hotels (trying to avoid)

Hi! Not sure if this is the right spot but... members traveling in our party have severe smoke allergies.
We are staying at CBR, and unfamiliar with what (if any) smoking areas are designated there (especially with the redesign, all my google searches are turning up info 5+ yrs old).
We know it may be in futile effort, but we would like to at least try to speak with guest services to see if we can be placed away from smoking areas, but wanted to know if 1. They existed first and 2. Where they are so we can have a better understanding of if we need to speak to guest services about it.

thank you in advance!

I can find current CBR maps, and CBR maps with DSAs, but just like you, no current maps with DSAs.

I would expect, though, that the number and locations haven't changed http://www.disneycaribbeanbeach.com/content/caribbean-beach-resort-map

I would stress, multiple times, "away from smoking areas, due to severe allergies". Unfortunately, there seems to be at least one at every building in every village. You might have to seriously consider changing resorts, or a mask.

I'll call and talk to them. And yes, I figured the maps were a lost cause but was hopeful someone who stayed recently could she some light

We stopped staying at CBR because people were smoking where they wanted to. We had a second floor room and there was smoke getting into our room from a smoker 2 doors down. It used to be our fav. resort.

We had a similar experience at CBR. We were on the ground floor but our upstairs neighbors stepped out on the walkway to smoke constantly. It was a minor inconvenience to me (no allergies or anything) but definitely noticeable. It’s annoying that people can be so inconsiderate.

I wonder if all of the moderates would be susceptible because the outdoor walkways seem so inviting to smokers?

You'll have that everywhere, at every resort, park and DS. Some people can't be bothered to follow the rules.
Yes, but staying in the deluxe resorts ,with hall entry, I won’t wake up with cigarette/cigar smoke coming into our room. I also carry a mask and rescue inhaler , if needed, elsewhere.

This is exactly what I was going to say. I also have severe allergic reactions to cigarette smoke. Most of the resorts have smoking areas right in the walkway to the main food court/bus stop. Horrible planning. Every trip I encounter people who smoke wherever the heck they want to because, hey, it's their right don't you know. Last trip, a lady smoked all the way up to the door of our longhouse at the Poly and then threw it into the bushes. Classy. Staying at a Deluxe is the same as any resort. I have had people smoke on their balcony close to mine and have the smell enter the room.

There definitely are smoking areas at CBR. If you have the My Disney Experience app, you can view your resort, then click on Guest Services, and in the menu of services, scroll down to designated smoking areas and click on view map. It should show you every designated smoking area on the hotel property.
I found many to be in a courtyard of the rooms, as well as near transportation.

You could ask to be assigned away from a designated smoking area, but I find it very common for people to smoke right outside their rooms too...especially if a designated location isn’t close by. I don’t know where the air intake is at AoA, but both the suites (looked like it at least) and Little Mermaid rooms have central air (vs air sucked in at the window).

The park smoking areas are near the bus loops and the Skyliner and require a minute or two of heavy smoke inhalation to get to past. My lungs were unhappy and I’m not that sensitive.

Also, now that smoking areas have been removed from the parks people are smoking everywhere so it is even more difficult to avoid. CMs see and smell people smoking and do nothing. It is worse than ever in the years I’ve been coming. Disney hasn’t really thought it through that people will follow reasonable rules but leaving their family for 1-2 hours every time they need to get their nicotine fix will often result in people just breaking the rule instead.

Some years ago, the garbage cans near some of the benches at CBR (not all of them) used to have designated smoking area symbols on them, and people sat at those benches and smoked there. Since then, the signs have been removed but the planter type things where you can put out cigarettes are still near some of the benches. From my recent experiences at CBR, once the designated smoking symbols were removed from the garbage cans, people have interpreted that to mean you can smoke on every bench. And that is exactly what is happening there. I've also seen people walk out of their room and smoke a few feet from their own door, directly in front of someone else's. I won't confront anyone about smoking, and I suspect a lot of those people interpret the absence of no-smoking signs to mean it's allowed, at least at the resorts. I know that Disney hates signs - especially ones telling people not to do something - but the complete absence of signs about smoking (whether it's a designated area or prohibited) at CBR is leading people to smoke wherever they like.

We were there in January. Couldn’t find any designated areas on maps and no garbage cans marked with smoking symbols. I asked an employee walking around where I could smoke. She said anywhere with a bench and garbage can. I didn’t believe that. Went to the front desk and asked a guy with an tablet, and his response was the exact same.

So I would say you will have a rough time unless they’ve changed their response. There are benches with garbage cans on most walkways of the resort it seemed.

The one right by our room I smoked at during off times, but when it was morning/mid day with more people walking around I just went to the parking lot. Felt like I was more away from people that way.

That’s not surprising at all. Smokers are going out of their way to avoid non-smoking areas and are being given incorrect info. This needs to change.

I report everyone I see breaking the smoking rule at the resorts. At Contemporary 2 years ago the jerk above us threw his butts down on our balcony and did it once while we were watching fireworks. I immediately went to the CL CM and told them what was going on they went up to take care of it. It didn't happen again. 2nd time at BC last year the couple was smoking on the balcony next to us. I leaned out and informed them their smoke was stinking up our room. I reported them also and watched the CM knock on their door then I went in our room and listened. The CM told them they would be charged a clean up fee and if it continued they would be asked to leave. It didn't happen again.

Love this! I am the same way and it embarrasses my DH but... nothing will ever be done unless we speak up. It really bugs me when my young children are around.
Unfortunately everyone else is basically right... Disney puts smoking areas in very bad places... like right in the walk way. Our last trip to Sports we had to walk through 2 of them just to get up to the main building. Now I do my best to request a room as far away as possible and plan a path on the map to walk around them the best I can. Also like others have mentioned many smokers just smoke wherever they want so me trying to avoid them doesnt quite work and my family gets lungs filled with the toxic smoke.

Okay, while eavesdropping seems a little invasive :), you really need to keep an eye out for smoking threads and post your experiences even time they're appropriate.I

Far too many people think it's pointless to bring this violation to the attention of CMs, that nothing will get done. They'd be wrong. Thanks for posting!

MDE app has all of the smoking areas listed and there are plenty of them. I just pulled up CBR map and counted 23 designated smoking areas around the resort. I think that they moved some areas around the resorts recently and took them off of the hard maps at the resorts, but they are definitely on the MDE app.

And while they aren't exact, they're fairly close to accurate. The one on Boardwalk shows right next to ESPN when in fact it's across from ESPN closer to the railing by the lake.

Florida does have a law that allows private businesses to establish their own outdoor smoking area policies and enforce them as they wish, so I'm sure the Disney lawyers would consider resort grounds part of the private business and follow the law as stated.
Not sure it applies to parking lots, though.
