Hi! My mom just got back from a split stay with one night at saratoga where she requested to be moved from her villa because someone had smoked in it, only to be relocated to another studio with a neighbor who smoked on the balcony and had to have smoked in the room because she could smell it regardless of where she was in his room. Has anyone else experienced this? She decided it was too late to move again and really did not have the energy to do it, but really is disgusted. I said she should right a complaint letter because disney is known to be non smoking and she has asthma, which was somewhat affected by the smoking. I was just curious to hear what you all think. I really do not want to have to pay increased maintenance fees to clean up after smoking, and if it is a cash guest through central reservations, then they should have to certainly pay a ton more since we are all paying dearly to maintain our home away from homes.

First of all, she should have expressed this to the people at the front desk (not by calling though) and spoken to a manager right away. She should not have to move again because a neighbor is breaking the rules. Instead, the neighbor should be charged the cleaning fee, and HE should be made to move. There is nothing that can be done about it now though after the fact.

I too have asthma and am very negatively effected by smoke. Our last trip we sometimes had a smoke smell coming into the master bathroom. This was because the upstairs neighbor smoked in the bathroom in the morning, and it travels through the exterior vents. Each time that has happened, I have gone to the front desk and asked to speak to a manager. They are usually more than happy to rectify the situation without making me move.

Now where the room has been smoked in ahead of you, then yes, you have to move, but not if it's your neighbor.

By the same token, I don't think there is anything that can be done about it NOW. It could have been handled when she was there, but that is past history at this point.

It seems with Disney whatever the infraction of the rules the answer is not to correct the problem, but to move you. We have had many problems with guests in neighboring rooms. When we report it - the front desk answer is always to move us. Why should our vacation be disrupted because of someone else is not following the rules. One time it was the one bedroom, mother, father and toddler. Extreme drug and alcohol use, screaming - physical fighting - wife locks herself in bathroom - extreme neglect of small child. In order to get the front desk to deal with the problem, we had called them several times, we went and informed the front desk if they didn't deal with it we would be forced to call the sheriff. At that time we were renting four rooms in that building - we did not want to all have to move because they wouldn't deal with one guest. As a side note - the guests were members and at the point the front desk moved them to another room. On another occasion the one bedroom was occupied by eight adults - again front desk offered to move us - not deal with the problem.

A reminder that smoking discussions are not permitted on the DVC boards, as it tend to become a heated discussion and it is not a DVC specific policy, but a Disney Resorts policy.
