Smoking in the world

I just returned from a week in the world. I've been multiple times before but this is the first time I noticed an abundance of smokers both in the parks and at my resort. We had a hard time trying to get by the smoking area at the castle. It was jam packed. Has anyone else noticed this?

I've never noticed the smoking areas being jam-packed, but then again I typically don't travel to WDW during peak season. I have, however, seen quite a few people who blatantly disregard the smoking areas and seem to feel comfortable "lighting up" in any place they please. It is a little unfortunate that the CMs won't ever say anything. :sad2:

When I was there in November they were not overcrowded, however people did not stay in the area. They spilled out into walkways. Personallly I do not like having to walk by the smoking areas and smell all the smoke. BTW I don't mean to sound snobby. I was raised with smokers and lived with them for 20 years. Now it is my choice not to!

I do not want to come off as being snobby either. I smoked for around 10 years, and kicked the habit a little over a year ago. I must admit that sometimes when I walk by someone smoking that I am tempted (I know ... gross, right?), so I tend to stay away from the designated zones.

Thank you to the smokers that do stay in the smoking area!

The smokers always seemed to be in their areas. I cannot say it ever bothered me.

People must really like to smoke. I noticed a sign advertising a sale on Camel cigarettes for $4.99 a pack. That was on SALE! :scared1:

Wow, I would be grateful for overcrowded smoking sections! I have seen way too many smokers just blatantly smoking everywhere and anywhere in the parks, so in my opinion all the smokers in a super crowded smoking section should be given a BIG thank you! Not only are they smoking where they should be. . . but they are doing it in unfavorable conditions, even when I was a smoker I didn't like to smoke or be in a large group of my "peers". . .too hard to breathe (funny I know).

Now that I've quite (almost 5 years, woohoo!) I hate to also be around the smoking sections but it iritates me more to see the people that don't follow the rules.

I just returned a couple of weeks ago and didn't notice smoking areas being jam packed. I don't really pay attention to those sorts of things. But at least they were smoking in the designated smoking areas.

I will probably get flamed for this :dance3: but the most bothersome to me are the ones who sit outside non-smoking rooms and smoke what seems like a pack a day :furious: . The smoke traveled into our room ...it was horrible :sad2: . There's more than one reason we get a non-smoking room. Thank you :grouphug: to those of you who stay in the designated areas it's greatly appreciated by those of us who are bothered by the smoke:).

Alright now flame away. :surfweb: :lmao:

I sometimes wish they had designated smoking and non smoking at the hotel pools. One thing I really don't care for is when I find a nice spot away from smokers, only to have one sit right next to me..when there are plenty of other lounges open...why should I be the one to move? :confused3

As for the parks I too have seen plenty of people just walking along, smoking, with no regards for the smoking in designated areas only. I remember one time this other guest went up to a walking smoker and total him that he needs to go 'over there', pointing to the smoking area. The smoker gave the guy a glare and just kept going.

Maybe there were a lot of Eurpoeans at the parks on the days you noticed increased numbers of smokers? I know smoking is far more common in some European countires (I'm looking at you, France) and maybe they take holiday in the peak summer months?

Typically there aren't very many people smoking there. However that area does seem to bottleneck before/after Cinderellabration performances, parades and fireworks. We do avoid that area because of ds's allergies. Another smoking area where the smoke seems to stagger is just outside the mens restroom at Epcot. It's the restroom you would pass if you were heading to guest services upon park entry.
