my girlfriend just heard that in the boston herald they had an article that disney is going non smoking in 2 weeks does anyone know if this is true??? :confused3

We can only hope that its true. But I'd take anything I read in the Boston Herald with a large grain of sand.

I actually called to ask about this, since my mother is a smoker, and I was told that there will continue to be designated smoking areas in the WDW parks.

For us non smokers it would be great if there was no smoking but ..... with the designated smoking areas it makes it a little better as long as the smokers use them. I find most smokers to be respectful to non smokers it is just a few that feel they don't have to follow the rules! We have to keep in mind that there are children around and they should not be exposed to smoking when ever possible.

I would think taking away smoking and smoking areas, would be worse for everyone else. Then smokers are just going to try to sneak one (maybe just openly) in, no matter who is around.

I agree with Evil Queen. I HATE smoke, yet am married to a smoker. I am trying to get him to WDW for the first time next summer. He is VERY good about utilizing smoking areas and very respectful of other's in dealing with his addiction. He hasn't smoked inside our house since I got pregnant with our first child - and even sits outside during nasty storms or freezing cold. He doesn't want to expose me or the kids to the smoke - and feels the same about others.

But, if there were no designated smoking areas at all, he just wouldn't go. If he didn't know about it before the vacation, he would find someplace where he could smoke (the sneaking) because he would not make it through a full day at the parks without a cigarette. If he found out about a complete no-smoking before the trip, he would cancel the trip or send me and the kids without him. Which would be sad for my kids who are begging Dad to go to WDW with them.

I think restrictions are GOOD on the smoking but to make the park NON SMOKING would make for a mess....people would just light up anyway....atleast this way its off to a side or a designated area. BUT alot of those areas seem to be near bathrooms....do they not realize people have to go there???

P.S. I am a social smoker! :guilty:

I don't smoke, but my DH does and I have the same thing in common with one of the others, that he probably wouldn't go if there wasn't a place to smoke or he would sneak one somewhere. As much as I hate smoke, there needs to be somewhere for them to smoke.

btw, a quick search oif the Boston Herald's website reveals NO article about a WDW smoking ban.

But we can always dream....
