Smoking in Non designated areas

Just wanted to point out that I do'nt think it's very well marked in the parks that you can't smoke everywhere.
I'm an non smoker myself so I understand what you all mean and think it's a fantastic idea.
But coming from the UK this is pretty much unheard of here and if it wasn't for these boards I'd never have known (the friend I went with was a smoker so we planned it into our trip round the park). Maybe as said a lot of people don't even know about the rule?

Does anyone know the smoking policy of the resort pool areas? We have witnessed several incidents of people in parks smoking in non-designated smoking areas, but by far the worst incidents are by the pools. In Sept.2001, while at the main pool at CS, I asked a smoker to please extinguish her cigarette as it was causing my asthmatic son to wheeze and cough, and I was very polite about doing so. Her response was that she "was here first", and she made a hand gesture using her middle finger! Needless to say, we moved to another area, but it made me mad. On several occassions at other pools(BWV and BCV) I have witnessed smoking in crowded areas since then, but I do not dare say anything for fear of another "bird" being flown my way! I grew up with smoking parents(and I am paying the price as an adult) and all of my siblings have or do smoke except me, and not one of them has ever refused to put away the cigarettes when children were present.

In september 2002 LOTS of people were smoking by the pool and along the pathways. It's annoying walking through clouds of smoke, even though none of us are sensitive to it. I didn't see any signs indicating smoking or non-smoking locations. I do have to say that a lot of the male smokers didn't look like they were from the US, but it's hard to tell.

I smoke occassionaly, and did so at the AKL pool bar one night. I don't drink much, so I smoke a cigarette or 2 instead. There were ashtrays there; it seemed ok. I didn't smoke by the chairs or the water, where there were families.

The designated smoking areas in the parks are really nice. They are usually so peaceful, and the smokers there are friendly. That's where the considerate ones hang out!

This is the nicest thread on smoking I have ever read on these boards!

At the ASSP there is an ashtray by the laundry room doors and there were people smoking there, but I felt that was too close to the pool and the walkway, so I went around the corner toward the parking lot to smoke and just put the butt in the ashtray after.
I did see people smoking in the chairs right by the lifeguard, and he did not say anything to them?? I would never smoke in the pool area. I try not to offend anyone with my habit, as a matter of fact I used to smoke in the area behind the store in liberty square at MK long before they made the smoking rule, nobody was ever back there and it is so peaceful.

I just wanted to say Congrats to Pat_Elliott... it is not easy to quit and bravo to you for doing it.. Hmmm, about the Pizza Hut thing..... what I would try to do is get myself to a gym and work out when I could...if you are going to eat those pizzas... I think the hardest part of giving up smoking is the weight gain....so do not get discouraged... just keep going forward..
