Smoking at the resort.....strange question

Ok...here's the scenario. I was chatting with a friend about smoking at the various resorts. How you can't smoke in your room, etc. And that there are specific places for smoking. Ok. Well, another person chimed in, asking about smoking 'other' substances. I told him I figured that it wasn't allowed, even in specified smoking spots. He was sort of surprised, saying he knew people that smoked that regularly at the resorts.
Now, I do remember thinking I did smell that in the air while walking towards the path to DHS from BW. I didn't see anyone though.
I'm now curious as to how common this is at the resorts. I can't imagine that guests are sitting in the smoking areas, 'lighting up a bowl'. So, are they off in less traveled areas? Doesn't anyone from the resort care?
Any experiences or thoughts?

Are you talking about marijuana? I don't think Disney has to specify that it isn't allowed as it is not legal to possess in FL for any reason.

I never encountered smelling any marijuana smoke in my visits.

ETA: Maybe someone else can update with the state of medical marijuana laws in FL.

Nope, nothing medical about it. Although this guy says it helps him relax at night, like having a drink.
I just can't imagine that it would be a wise thing to do. But, I've always been a rule follower

What I looked up about medical marijuana in FL and for DL in CA seemed that Disney would not really look kindly on smoking it anywhere on property.

If he has no medical reason, then he definitely risks having the police called.

But apparently, it is a "thing" to try to get away with doing this at Disneyland, at least, because OC Weekly wrote an article about the best places to do it

Semi off topic. I read this and that made me think of those vapor e-cigs and if they fall under the same rules? Just curious.

Vaping has to be done in designated smoking areas. It's treated the same.
That's what I figured, but I have seen a few walking around a resort and not in a designated area, so that is why I was curious.

Sadly, I've seen all sorts of 'smokers' walking around resorts and parks.

I'm sure your friend has either smoked weed, or knows someone who has, either at a resort or park. And I'm equally sure that he knows it's illegal. I've smelled it at both resorts and parks in both WDW and DLR. Doesn't mean it is allowed.

I wouldn't risk my WDW vacation and/or banishment to get stoned. The thought of being banned from WDW is much scarier than any legal ramifications, honestly. Don't know what that says about my priorities, but...:) I have no issue with people using pot in their own homes, but it's definitely questionable at a WDW resort. It just seems inappropriate. As far as someone smoking in the parks - to me it's unacceptable - along with drunkenness, profane language, etc.

Have to agree. No way would I risk being tossed out!! This guy doesn't seem to have such worries.....must be all that weed has made him wicked laid back!!! Not me. I would be a wreck.....just not worth it.
I doubt anything I say will make a difference though.

This is the goofiest thread I've read in a long time, and I mean that in the best possible way. Put down the drugs people!!!!!!

When we were in the villas at WL in October, we smelled someone smoking it late one night when coming back from a MNSSHP. Two mornings later, DH left early to get kiddo some bananas from the mercantile/gift shop. When he came back, he said you could smell it from entry of the villa lobby all the way down to our room. I ducked out and sure enough. There was that very familiar scent.

We switched to the villas at the Grand Floridian a few days later for the rest of our two week trip and never caught a whiff of it there. I think maybe it's easier to get away with it at WL...

Everyone tells me that weed isn't addictive.....and I agree, physically at least. I do think that many people get 'addicted' to the feeling they get. So, they go to great lengths to keep having it.
I just can't see taking the chance of getting booted from my resort. This guy is going down soon. I'll be curious as to what his experience is. I'm sure he'll come back and tell me all about how easy it is to find a quiet spot and be unnoticed. Ah well.

If I'm not mistaken, it is illegal in Florida even if you have a medical "need"! that means not only do you risk being kicked off Disney property, you also risk arrest.

Seriously? He was surprised that it's not allowed at Disney? I find that just flat out impossible to believe.

Now, does that mean that no one does it? Of course not. But I do not believe anyone thinks it's allowed.

What would happen if someone at the resort noticed while doing their job? No idea. Probably nothing. I'd say the vast majority would keep right on doing what they are doing.

But you never know. You could encounter one that is a stickler for rules. That would be very bad. And not worth a risk.

Smoking any illegal substance is not permitted at Disney World anywhere. Smoking any illegal substance is not permitted anywhere else. That's why it's called illegal. Do people do it at Disney World and other places? Yep. But it is not permitted. Any form of legal smoking is permitted at Disney World in designated smoking areas. And that's ANY form of legal smoking. Do people smoke outside those areas? Yep. But it's not permitted.

Disney World doesn't tell guests they cannot smoke in certain areas but will tell them to "refrain" from doing so. However, there's no need to tell guests to "refrain" from smoking illegal substances because those are illegal.

I know!! I'm going to go with he figured no one would bother you....rather than he was surprised it wasn't allowed!!!
And I'm sure there is plenty of smoking activity going on...both legal and otherwise. I was just curious if anyone had any personal experiences. I was hoping to be able to say that 'well, I know of at least one instance of a person getting tossed off property for doing it'.
Now, when I'm there in 10 days, my nose will be peeled, waiting for any 'smells'!!! And when that happens, I'll keep right on walking!!!
