Smoking at Disneyland

In case you didn't notice, this question is about DisneyLAND. I don't need smoking info about WDW
I'm the one who mentioned that I didn't realize WDW still had smoking sections, per your OP mentioning that California was more strict so I thought you were saying you had been allowed to smoke inside of WDW.

Thanks @Sweettears for that info that WDW does not in fact have smoking sections, and it is not just a strict California law but a US park rule. Some take out their frustrations on other people, but that info is appreciated to me.

Seriously? You're comparing smoking--which absolutely affects other people near the smoker--to eating junk food?

As for alcohol, we do have regulations about that when it creates a danger to other people.

There's no "rabbit hole" or slippery slope argument to be made for fattening foods or sodas just because we have smoking and drinking laws.
Thats what smokers do, or family of smokers to protect their smoking family member. Its everyone elses fault sadly.

So that the smoker in your group is prepared, other places where smoking is prohibited in California include:
  • Indoor workplaces such as restaurants, bars, lobbies, lounges, waiting areas, elevators, stairwells and restrooms
  • Outdoor areas within 20 feet of a main exit, entrance or window.
  • State parks and beaches
  • Public transportation

Keep in mind that WDW is comprised of 27,000 acres of land. They don't require you to leave property to smoke, but they do not allow smoking in the parks or other public areas excepting the designated spots that are all outside of main traffic areas.

Disneyland is much smaller, and to walk off property, you just have to hit the sidewalk on Harbor Blvd. It can be a hike, but it's not that bad.

For those of us accustomed to stay off property on Harbor, there are often people standing right outside the DLR property entrance smoking. I assume this is where many people go who can't smoke on property. It's a really short distance from the Esplanade. There are also people right there selling all kinds of merchandise.

I don't really like walking through this smoke in/out of the parks, but it is lightyears better than the old days. I remember staying at the DL Hotel in the 90's and you had to walk through a wall of smoke to get into the lobby!

I think DTD should have one area for smokers

In the park, its too busy now for really an area. Like before the path between Fantasy land and Frontier land was perfect but with GE, its just too busy

I think people should be able to do what they want but smoking affects others and I'm not a huge fan of the smell or second hand effects, so while I would not mind an area for smoking in DTD. I'm also not against the site being smoke free

I'd like to allow smokers to have their space inside the resort, but everytime I think so, I remember how I react when I smell that smoke, and am glad that they are not allowed to.

I went on a river cruise last week in Europe, and it was astounding how much cigarette smoking was going on in lots of places you just don't see anymore here in the US. It did not bother me too much, but it was never in my face. I smelled it once and it got me slightly nauseous, after that, I just made an effort to try and stay away.

It would be better if they handled it they way they do in Japan. There, they have smoking shelters, where the smoke doesn't go out into the open. They had a designated indoor space at Disneyland, and even on the street they have little enclosed areas just for smoking. That works better for the passers-by.

I feel badly for smokers who have to plan their days around where they can smoke. Such a bummer for them. I'm grateful that so many do go to the places where it is allowed outside the parks now rather than inside. That said, I'm grateful to not smell the smoke in the parks and get the headache that sometimes comes from it. The smoking sections they used to have were in some of the quiet places in the parks that we really enjoy now that we can avoid cigarette smoke: Matterhorn area by the water, Fantasyland-Frontierland walkway, behind Grizzly River Run. We love those areas now. Best to the OP and their group to plan smoking stops that allow them to still enjoy the parks--thank you!
