smoke masks?

this week the company I work for is handing out emergency smoke masks and goggles, to be stored in our desks until needed.

they also handed out practice masks.


the practice masks were....lime green

Needed for what? Do you work in a nuclear facility or something?

our company has offices in lower Manhattan and Jersey City. since 9/11 and last year's blackout our company -- like many others in our neighborhood -- has gotten fearful -- we've not only had traditional fire drills, we've been told where to gather in any emergency, we have emergency rations in our offices in case we have to "shelter in place", and now the one-use smoke masks.

I work on the 30th floor. if I have to walk down to the street in a fire...at least I'll be able to breathe, right?

You probably need a HEPA filter which would be purple to get the particles.

the "real" mask is sealed in foil, not to be used unless there's a fire. once it's exposed to the air it cannot be reused.
