We are really getting off track here. Perhaps some of you would like to start a new thread. Call it Cantaloupes, 44Ds and thongs.

Looking at the poll over the last several days it appears that nearly 25% of those voting are smokers or support smoking on Disney cruises. This is a little surprising. I did not see that many smokers on my cruise but the smoke form the few that did polluted the area where they were. I guess that the answer is to stay off verandahs, stay away from open air areas and most of all stay out of the clubs.

I will ASSURE you that no superintendant or school system would find that acceptable behavior in public for a teacher and it IS part of your contract to act what the "norm" considers proper in public. No parent wants to see little johnny's teacher in a thong. It is a responsibility that goes along with teaching to hold yourself to a certain standard for the benifit of your students.

If Steve's daughter get's up in front of her class in Illinois wearing a bikini top and a thong, the superintendant will have a problem.

If Steve's daughter wears a thong and bikini top on Castaway Cay, not a problem for the superintendant or school system.

Tell your daughter to enjoy her vacation.

yeah but what would happen IF moinab posted pictures on her internet site/website/webshots, etc....which are out there for the entire world to see and in the background is Steve's daughter with her thong & bikini top... and what if that superintendent happened to see those pictures which are out there for the world to see?????

Yeah, it may never happen, it's a million to one shot, but like I say at school....you never know who is around and you never know who is listening. JMO

Now, back to the Original Topic.......which was what???? I forget now...

Did any one else think it is odd, that dad knows his daughter's bra size?

vicky, when you are a teacher you are held responsible for your actions and are expected to act to a certain standard. Depending on what the photo was the superintendant and or school committe, could be well within his rights to suspend a teacher, not renew his or her contract or issue a warning. That aside as a teacher you have a moral obligation to conduct yourself in public in a way that sets a good example for your students. Swing from the chandilear at home wearing your thong but in public have some reserve.
And pluto Judy I thought it was quite bizarre that he was aware of her bra size, if you were to ask my HUSBAND what my bra size was his responce would probably be "I don't know large? " Although from his bio I see he would have been only 17 when he fathered this 25 year old so being a young father he may have a more relaxed relationship with his child than I did with my dad.

Don't think anybody needs to bash him for knowing a bra size - if you read through the bio thoroughly, you'll see he's a captain/paramedic - it's in his career to know an awful lot about people of all shapes, sizes - my hubby is an Engineer/Paramedic and can tell you an awful lot about people's shapes, sizes also. I'm sure he can tell you the bra size just by looking at a woman. Most physicians can also. Most apparel employees can also. He brings up a very valid point about smoking annoyance being relevant to other annoyances. Personally, I'd be more opposed to the Osbournes on the family beach than I would a smoker. As far as the thong, well that was a hypothetical topic comparing smoking to other possible annoyances. Good points were brought up. Though, it can be argued that smoking is a health risk to nonsmokers in the vicinity whereas the thong or the Osbournes are really just nuisances in comparison.

Enough Guys

I asked her mother, if it is anyones buisness. I wanted to be factual.

Smoking is an act done by adults that lead to many insidious diseases. I have seen more of it in my 22 years on this job than most of you. Yet I still enjoy an occaisional cigar. Does not mean I would be rude about it in public. If someone was bothered by it I would not smoke anymore around them. However as long as DCL allows it I will enjoy my cigars.

Yes, and that's what this thread is all about (except the "cantaloupe" detour). This thread is about where and when DCL should allow smoking so that smokers can enjoy their cigarettes, cigars, and pipes — while those who hate the smell and/or have adverse physical reactions can still enjoy the full range of the ships' activities.

As noted earlier in this thread, DCL already has severe restrictions on smoking, but a few adjustments — such as making Rockin' Bar D 100% non-smoking (or making a significant change to the ventilation in that room) — would be very welcome by many of us.

Why don't we make a list of things that Disney can do to make cruises more enjoyable for the 75% (according to the poll) of us who want less smoke on cruises.

Here are some positive things that I have seen suggested.

1. Make the family pool area smoke free.

2. Improved ventilation in the clubs.

3. Smokers get the verandahs on the starboard side of the ship, non-smokers the port.

Any other suggestions?

I would modify the above list as follows:

1. Since 60% (at this posting) of respondents say "no smoking" why devote one whole side of the ship to smoking? Make it starboard-aft (so the smoke doesn't blow to other areas when ship is underway)

2. All public areas should be non-smoking. Possible exceptions might be one evening venue (maybe that boring bar to the left of Rockin' Bar D). Please Please PLEASE make Rockin' Bar D non-smoking! This is the most fun this 50+ year old has had since I was in my 20s but I can only stay down there a few minutes before I have to run for my inhaler.

I agree with the above few posts. Most public areas should be smoke free. I believe the smokers are the ones who should be "inconvenienced" if they want to smoke outside their verandah. THEY should be the ones to go to a "safe" spot, not the non-smokers. This is the norm in more and more areas in the country!

Although I am 100 percent against smoking, I do not think that it would be a smart move on Disney's behalf. they would lose a lot of business. I would however like to speak my mind about smoking...first of all, now that we know the facts about smoking I find it irresponsible of any person to start smoking! I count myself as one of the people who call cigarettes 'cancer on a stick'

I would, however, think it wrong if smoking was made illegal. There are many people who are addicted to it and for some reason or other cannot take the steps to quit.

The fact is so many people have started smoking because of pop culture...if we could get the smoking out of the movies and television shows and ads, then I believe that will be a big help to future generations...the truth is that our society is going downhill because of all the violence and drugs in popular society...parents...YOU be the role model for your kids! Stop the violence! Stop the drugs!

Sorry, I got a little emotional there. I have a friend who is now in a mental institution because she led herself to be violent to herself because her parents never limited what she could read or watch...and movies and books like Girl, Interrupted and X-rated anime movies took over my friend's mind. This is society today and we must work together to stop it!

Lastly, I want to say that smoking affects me deeply and I will make sure that none of my friends go in that direction! My grandfather died of emphesyma. Finally, I want to say how much I love my parents for teaching me and limiting what I can watch or read and I want to tell my grandparents how proud I am. My grandmother quit when the ash from her cigarette burnt my arm and my grandfather quit when he saw how it affected my sister and I.

I am not trying to start an uproar, just stating my opinion.

As a reminder. The original topic was should Disney have a smoke free cruise. This topic is quickly becomeing a debate of the "evils" of smoking. Please return to the Original Topic.

Love the simplicity of the idea
Starbord = Smoking
Port = Non Smoking

That way people can all enjoy the cruise.

Of course I would love a Smoke free Disney Cruise but understand that baby steps are needed to get there.

I didn't have time to read every post in this thread so I'm sorry if this was already mentioned.

The reason Carnival can have a non-smoking ship is because they have so many ships. Disney only has two. It would not be in their best interest to make one of them non-smoking. Don't get me wrong, it's a wonderful idea, but not realistic at this point. I really like the idea of having a section of cabins in the aft on one side of the ship be smoking. ALL other areas should be smoke free. JMHO
