smelly sneakers

eeewwww. DD wanted a drink at bedtime. I carried it into her room and I notice this odor, what I thought was the neighbor's cat's litterbox which sits on the other side of DD's closet (it's a rowhouse that's been converted to two units and we share the 2nd floor).

I mention the smell and DD says it's probably her sneakers, they're sitting on the floor beside her bed. I picked tham up and sure enough they STINK!

What can I do to kill the odor? It literally smells like a cat box, like ammonia. I sprayed Febreze once, but I can already smell them again (they're on the floor beside me now ). I putting them in the bathroom, spraying them with Lysol and going to bed.

Sprinkle liberally with baking soda...it usually takes out odors....

But I just throw my DD sneaks in the washer when they get dirty....

My husband would bring home his work shoes, and we would use powdered laundry detergent on them and toss them into the washing machine and line dry them.
You could also use the odor killing sprays that they sell at the drug store.

Same thing happened in our house. DH started to complain that the cat must have 'P' d in our laundry room. We traced the smell back to his work boots. Yuck

Wash them with baking soda and rinse well.

There several things that cause foot odor. Some people cannot wear things on their feet with some man-made products. It causes their feet to sweat more. Wear only 100% cotton socks. Also sometimes when your sneakers and socks get wet and are allowed to dry while on your feet this also can cause problems with foot odor.

Like everything else hygiene is always the best rule to follow. Clean feet, clean socks and clean sneakers. For some even this doesn't work. Next time try purchasing a different brand.

Wearing the same sneakers day after day can also be the problem. You wouldn't wear the same cloths day after day without washing.

My DS9 has to leave his sandals outside on the steps.

I just throw ours in the washer when needed. Not only gets the odor out , but cleans them up, too.
