Smells of Disney

Indeed, the AKL lobby (punctuated with the aroma from Boma) is just fantastic.
I love the smell of the "dark ages" scene in SSE.
Smells just like barbeque sauce doesn't it? Next time you order chicken fingers in a WDW restaurant, give the BBQ sauce a good whiff and you'll find yourself saying "Hmmm??"

The roasted candied pecan smell that looms large adjacent to the Enchanted Tiki Room is such a welcomed "I'm at WDW" moment. But I was disappointed one day when they cranked up the aroma - long before they opened the cart.

My favorite smell at the parks is the hot, wet asphault. Every time I smell wet asphault at home, it makes me smile and think....well, it smells just like Disney! (As my DW rolls her eyes....she knows it's true! :rotfl: )

Many of the prementioned smells and others... my faves are:

* The musty indoor smells of Pirates of the Carribean
* Smoked turkey legs everywhere in Frontierland
* The metallic coolness of Space Mountain when you ride through on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority
* Of course popcorn on Main Street
* the Apple pie at Philharmagic
* The chemical smell of refreshing pool water after a long day in the parks...

...between the AKL lobby and those roasted nuts near POTC!! (oh yeah, I forgot one - the smell of HOT chocolate just before you enter The Land....)

I love the smell of Journey Into Your Imagination and the WL lobby!!!

I love the "chocolate" smell of the 4th floor Concourse at the Contemporary Resort! :wizard:

I have 3 that I go crazy over--walking by Ghirardelli's at DTD, driving my boat to the Poly on a Sunday morning and smelling the fresh baked goods (knowing that I can't take my break to go in :confused3 ), and taking the boat to FW and smelling the fried chicken and ribs cooking for HDDR and Trails End.

I really miss riding Horizons and getting to smell the orange grove. It still stands out in my mind.

a lot of us are going in May (DH :smooth: and I are May 10 thru 17) since it is impossible to make plans to meet anyone from our boards...it would be fun if we could divise a 'buzzword' (like in the old movies---"the birds fly south"
reply "yes, but only in the coldest of winters" ) or maybe agree on a certain color of ribbon...that way we could all say Hi  to each other, without the commitment of schedules...just a happy Hi! what do you think?

Oddly, that is one of my favorites!! HAHA!

Another favorite is the smell when you walk in the gift shops, it's kind of like AC and plastic mixed with model glue.... I guess it is all of the new clothes and toys....lol.

When I first step into the MK and the Boardwalk. But I love all the others mentioned here as well (candied almonds, POC, the flowers during the Flower and Garden Festival, the walk way up to TOT) the list could go on and on :)

I could not agree more... In the 13 years since my las visit i can still smell the oranges!!! That is one of my favorite smells EVER!!!

the smell of bar-b-Q and or smoked meats that hangs around just about every place at WDW. We have been other places where they were grillin some sort of critter or another and that smell of smoke with a hint of sweet sauce makes all 3 of us stop, take a drag, and look at each other and say "Disney".

i have to double another posters comment about wet asphault (sp?) too. we had an unusually warm day there in philly the other day and our relatively new blacktop driveway was burning off the morning damp. it smelled like a WDW morning.

Stupid things like that are bright spots in my day. (oh yea - my kids smiles are kinda nice too)

I absolutely love this thread!! :goodvibes

Firstly, my family and I feel there is a "Florida" smell. As soon as we walk off the plane and into the gate, the warm air hits you, the sunshine is streaming in through the cracks and there is this humid, very exotic, lush smell to us. We love it!!

There is a Coronado smell, in the lobby, a combination of the spicy aroma from the Pepper Market and the smell of the water from the fountain...its just so nice :) (but we wont be staying at CSR this trip.... :( However this leads me to our next smell.... :smooth: )

The smell of the Wilderness Lodge Lobby, as many have said, its indescribeable but its there! We're so psyched to be staying at WL this trip as we haven't stayed there in eight years (yet we visit the hotel EVERY trip lol) :bounce:

Horizons! Just the words brings back the intoxicating smell of oranges! When i was little my mom bought be a orange lip gloss at the Belz Outlet Mall in Orlando and i said to her "Mom! Its horizons lip gloss!!" I miss that smell, and that ride, but it is the most vivid of Disney smells in my mind. :lovestruc

The smell of the monorail is another. Mmmmm I can close my eyes, smell it and hear..."Please stand clear of the doors..." Im a monorail junkie! and it is one of my favorite rides....yes rides~ and Disney :) :cloud9:

Bugsy!

I completely agree! Well there is the DIS colour, just wear lime green on your trip! A really cool tip, go to Home Depot and check out the Disney paint section. The paint chips are Lime Green Mickey heads! Too cool. I'll be wearing one on my fanny pack this trip (May 12th - 20th) so if you see it dont be afraid to ask if im a member of the DISboards k? :)

I've been known to walk into a Disney Store just to breathe in the smell. :goodvibes

I love the stale water smell of SM (and any of the other water rides). Really love the thick, fog smell they pipe into POC at the pirate ship scene.

I love walking into WS from the Int'l Gateway and smelling Fish & Chips right off the bat. And I hate Fish & Chips.

Speaking of the WS, I love the way it feels, smells and sounds. I could just sit on a bench and close my eyes and if that's the only thing I do all day, I'm totally happy! :flower:

My thoughts EXACTLY!!! Last year when we stepped off the plane, the Florida smell hit us. It's the first sign we're "home".
