This is reminiscent of the argument I heard when CDs seemed to be replacing vinyl.
"I like the warmth of the sound you get from vinyl. I like the hiss and the scratchy sound."
I guess the enjoyment I get from reading is my immersion in the story. If the story is good....all other details disappear. The vehicle is unimportant.
I've also explained before that my Kindle allows me to carry 100s of "real books" with me at any time. This makes traveling with books exponentially easier.
I can shop for and purchase books at any hour of the day or night from anyplace with a cell signal and have my book in less than 30 seconds.
I can make virtually any book a "large print" book.
I can fit an entire library into a 10 ounce device which fits in a pocket
I can hold any book, regardless of size or length, in one hand and turn pages with my thumb, all while laying in any position in bed.
My Kindle and my Kindle iPhone app talk to each other. I can read from my Kindle at home and the later in the day, while I'm standing in line at the grocery store continue reading on my iPhone and my iPhone app asks me if I want to jump to the fathest page read on my Kindle. It works in the other direction as well. I find these two devices have increased the amount of time I spend reading. I've never carried the book I was reading to the grocery store.
Books for my Kindle are almost always cheaper than "real" books. Most are $9.99......even the most current best seller.
I hope this eases some of the confusion as to why people enjoy reading from an e-reader.
Oh....and while I dont think paper books will ever be extinct....Jeff Bezos....the man responsible for
Amazon, has stated that they sell 48 e-books for every hundred paper books and that the sales figure has tripled in the last year
