Anyone ordered a smash cake for a one year old at WDW? We are taking the baby to Cinderella's for her first and staying the night at Music. I think the cake will be too messy for the restaurant, was wondering if 1) disney even does smash cakes 2) if we could do one and have it sent to the hotel?

I am not sure if Disney does them or not, but if you have any access to a car, I would strongly recommend Publix. They give the smash cake for free if you order a regular cake that says Happy 1st Birthday. They have the best cakes!!!

Check out the cake chatter thread for details, but you can get a mini two tiered cake that might work well.

Our dd had never had cake before and barely touched her smash cakes (birthday and one for 1yr photo shoot). We used primarily white icing and put her in a white minnie shirt so it wasn't too messy. That could be an option if you wanted the cake at CRT.

OK, silly question: what is a smash cake? Is it just the little cake you give the baby to let them make a mess with? Or is it a specific type of cake?

I've just never heard that term before!

I live near by, so I could get one elsewhere. I was just wondering if they did them.

We gave her a cupcake when she turned 11 months (at WDW actually). It was a huge hit. I'm willing to bet she will finish it.

I love smash cakes and love pictures of babies enjoying them. Our photographer does amazing shots of smash cakes done at her studio. That being said, I would not do one at a restaurant. some babies barely touch them, and others create a huge and total mess....cute....yep but not for the staff that has to clean it up, or the couple next to you that does not want to hear the excitement of your baby or maybe the cries when it gets in her eyes and ears and nose and she is no longer happy.....yep, it does happen. I would consider doing it at home before or after the trip, or maybe by the pool one day. The room is an option but be sure to protect the carpet etc. You don't want to have to restrain the fun and excitement of a smash cake, but neither do you want to have to pay for carpet cleaning for being covered in red icing. Both of my boys smash cakes were pooh and were a huge fun mess. Older DS however got really upset as the cake got everywhere and had a mild meltdown!

Not sure but I wanted to tell you to avoid fondant as it doesn't get as messy as regular buttercream, etc. frosting. I take cake smash pictures so I've been through a bunch of them :-). Maybe try garden grocer to have it delivered?

I also wouldn't do it at a restaurant. We had one a couple weeks ago for DGD and she threw it.....not good at a restaurant.
And she wanted to use a spoon :rotfl: Still made a huge mess.

Someone chime in here, but isn't it the Disney florist that also does the other extras like gifts in the room, etc? There is a way to order a cake, but I don't know if they do a smash cake per-se. Good call on not doing it at the restaurant. It's not fair to the servers to have to clean up the mess, and it would not be fun trying to clean up the baby in the bathroom. Last week was our DD's first birthday and it took FOREVER to clean up all the frosting.

Someone mentioned cupcake in passing--how about that as a smash cake. Circumference-wise, it is smaller than a smash cake. But frosting-wise, I bet it has an equitable amount. They aren't too expensive either for something a 1 year old will destroy.

Our smash cake was a cupcake with extra frosting. DS watched them make it and it was included with the order of the bigger cake she had.
I would still not do it in a restaurant.
Maybe outside someplace??
