Has anyone used, or is using SmartTalk for their cell service? Our contract is finally up with Verizon and we are looking at all our options.

If you have used or are still using it, can you tell me does it work at WDW? We do end up calling each other down there from the parks and hotel room.

Thank you in advance -

Do you mean Straight Talk where you pay either $30 or $45 month flat fee? If so, the non-smartphones use the Verizon network, so your signal/coverage would be the same as you have now.

I am glad you knew what I meant to say. :rolleyes1 It has been one of those days.

Thank you. That is what I needed to know!

My kids and I have been using it for the past 2 years. We are very happy with it. I never used to text and now that it is included I use it all the time. We get the $45 unlimited/month. With tax it is like $49-ish. Unlimited talk/text/web.
Many people complain about customer service, but I have never had a problem. If I did have to call, the rep did not let me off the phone til my problem was resolved. And if you aren't happy with it, there is no contract, so you can move on to something else.
My brother also started with it after his Verizon contract was up. He has not had any problems either.

I have an iPhone 5 I purchased through Straight Talk at walmart. We went to Orlando last march and I had no issues with it. In fact, other than a delay and issue with initially getting my number switched over from the old provider (and a customer service that is obviously outsourced to other countries) I haven't had any issues since. I set it up on auto pay with ny credit card.

Thank you all. Right now, even with an employee discount thru my employer my cell phone bill is $190 a month with Verizon. The contract is up at the end of next month. Going with Straight Talk would bring it down to $45 (plus tax) for each line, and we have two.

Again, thank you all.

Count me in as another Straight Talk user that has had no issues. I have a "dumb" phone with them and DD13 has a "Smart phone" on their service. We would recommend them in a heartbeat.

I was just thinking about switching too.
We have 2 smart phones and one dumb phone with verizon.

Has anyone used their smartalk phone as a hot spot for Wifi?
I wanted to be able to do this in the car on the way to florida so the kids have wifi on kindles and mini ipads.

I asked in the store about this and was told it was free to do this. But I am not sure.

My husband's phone is with StraightTalk because our provider's coverage in remote areas isn't adequate and he does a lot of work in rural areas. I'm generally pleased with the service. The bill is on an auto-pay plan so I don't ever have to think about it, the coverage area is good, and the $30 plan is more than enough for his use habits.

However, I have heard some negative reviews of them when it comes to data. They don't just throttle, like my MetroPCS unlimited plan does. They can and will cut you off completely for excessive use. That alone is enough to keep me from making the switch myself - Metro's coverage is good enough for me, strong in metro areas and along major interstates, and in the rare month when I'm traveling and use more data than usual I know that they might slow my connection down but I'll never find myself without data when I want to use my phone to get directions, find an ATM, or book a room from the road.

We have non smart phones with Straight Talk and we are on AT&T network. We made sure we would not be on Verizon since we don't get a good signal with them. Had Verizon before ST.
We have no complaints with the service we get both of us have the $30 a month plan. We are both retired and don't use our cell's as much as when we worked. Husband uses about 700 minutes a month I only use about 200 minutes so it works for us.
You can find out more by going to

Howard forums. It is all about cell phones and service.

We are using Straight Talk for almost 2 years with no problems at all. Love it and will never go back to a contract.
