Smartphones At The Gym

Phones are prohibited in the workout area and locker rooms at my gym so not an issue for me. The problem my wife has is people sitting on equipment and chatting with others and not using the machine. And my issue is in the pool. We have several "walkers" that insist on having their own lane when they could all be using one lane, or better yet, use the open area with no lanes which has been set aside for those looking to walk or do water aerobics.
This drives me bonkers!! My gym literally has a leisure pool for this that's separate from the lap pool just for walking, water aerobics, and swim lessons yet some still insist on using the lap pool.

I do get that the leisure pool is warmer than the lap pool and some don't like the warmer water, but at least share a lane!

I have everything I need at home now but in my gym days like mentioned above I’d just ask to work in. Did that before cellphones because people tend to chat. There were time limits for machines as well. It was an honor system but most people stuck to it. Pool, sauna, racquet ball court etc. you had to reserve a time.

Doe you have this problem at your Gym?

Someone will be using a weight machine you need.

They will sit there and knock out a Set and then whip out there Smartphone and play with it for a LONG time-MUCH,MUCH longer than a "normal" rest time between Sets and then repeat.

They just kick back and have at it!

YES! All too often someone will sit down on a machine - usually one I want to go on - and they simply whip out their cel and start surfing the web...

OMG YES, YES, YES. It annoys the hell out of me. Like Dude/Dudette get off the social media and just do the reps. You don't need a 10 min break between reps of 10! Each machine should have a time limit, the min you sit your butt down and let it go off like a taser LOL.
Love it!!!! :)

it’s definitely acceptable GYN etiquette to politely ask “hey dude can I work in with you?” when they are tying up any kind of equipment and are resting between sets.
No doubt and I would probably do that if it was somebody I know, but I just don't care to ask a "stranger" and I would imagine the person being asked is not always "excited" about it either.

But that may just be me.

This doesn't happen too often at my gym. Most phone use is for music so other than changing tracks you don't see a lot of phones. You will see people socializing on the equipment but if you ask how many more sets they have they are quick to finish up.

The locker rooms, at least the men's, has terrible cell service and an attendant that keeps an eye out for people on them near the lockers. There is a small seating area with a TV away from the lockers so you'll see more phones there but I can't say I've ever seen anyone trying to take pictures, even selfies, in the locker room.

I go to a single-location gym that is designed for a little older crowd. Not geriatric but there aren't a lot of teens in there. They are near a hospital and they do a lot of rehab for post-surgery and have a lot of programs for the elderly so it doesn't have the Gold's Gym feel.
