to many odd things, to many unanswerd questions, and the father seems to be putting on an act... I really hope I am worng

I thought I was the only one thinking this. The dad is just plain creepy IMO.

I told my wife as soon as they found her.........something is very strange about the Smart parents.

No, you aren't the only one at all. There is something about this whole thing that bugs me..

I'm glad that I'm not the only one that feels this way. There's something about that father that is ...... insincere? It's hard to describe, but I don't like it.

I am truly thrilled for the family but there are so many odd things about this story.
The Smart father sort of reminds me of a campaigning politician or something. I have read that they are a deeply religious family and are well known and respected in their community so maybe his true character isnt coming across on tv? I dont know, the whole thing is just strange.

I hope you are wrong. The only thing I don't understand is why they brought homeless people to their house to do work. Would you endanger your family like that???

TC:cool:

I disagree with all of this.

If you know something about the Smart's family religion it really teaches that you are suppose to help you neighbor when he/she is down, but does not believe in "handouts" In other words they do charity, but you have to work for it so the hiring of down and out people kind of fits. It would make them feel much better than just giving money.

I think he is giddy right now and I don't think that is a normal emotion that you can guage people on. If you watched the interviews with his brother and brother in-law they are much calmer and relived.

My belief that something is not right with this family and that the dad is creepy have absolutely nothing to do with the families religion or the fact that they helped a homeless man.

It has everything to do with a 14/15 yr old being found alive after so long (that is almost unheard of) and I am so RELIEVED that she is ok. It also has to do with the fact that the dad certainly gives off an air that I can only describe as "creepy". I thought this of him when the disappearance first occurred. The way he was on last night's news and this mornings Today show just confirmed what I had been thinking.

I'm sorry but you are wrong. I am too tired to try and convince anyone of their sincerity because I know it would most likely be futile.

If anyone watched Survivor when Utah's Neleh was on, many people didn't like her because they couldn't believe someone could be that sweet, etc. and it had to be an act and so on. There are people in this world who are nice, kind and pure of heart.

I'm profoundly relieved that this girl has been found alive. However, the story does not add up. I have a brain, I choose to use it.

Just wondering what you consider the right way to be after and during such an ordeal. This is every parents worst nightmare and I for one will not judge the family based on what others deem the right behavior is.

I think I'll just be patient and wait to hear more before judging either way.

I'm not judging. I am very glad she is home safe. I don't know how I would act if it were one of my girls.

Maybe the media is getting to me, I don't know. I wish them all the best regardless.

I'm not judging this family. I haven't seen this father interviewed. I'm just saying that what we've been told so far doesn't make sense. I think there is a lot more to this story.

I agree. Something makes me uncomfortable about this whole situation. Something is just not adding up here.

I seriously hesitated before using the word "judging," because I worried that people would take it wrong, but I couldn't think of anything else at the time...

Perhaps, I should have substituted "reach my own opinion" instead of "judging either way."

I think there have been so many cases that have ended up with the parents being involved in some type of scam or in the actual murder of their children that we tend to be skeptical. I'll admit to having some questioning going on in my own mind. I was even afraid to mention it but it's interesting that others also have this doubt. I hope that I am wrong that this was just purely a case of a kidnapping that turned out okay in the end.
