Smallest resort?

What would you say is the smallest resort? FQ? GF?
And the most compact? meaning the least amount of walking:confused3

In terms of ground to cover, I've always heard the POFQ is the most compact resort. Some people prefer that, as there's less walking...some people prefer a more spread out resort.

If you go only by room capacity, the smallest WDW resort is the Villas at Wilderness Lodge which has only 181 rooms. If you go by units (as it's a DVC resort) it's even smaller at 131 units. However, the Villas at the Grand Floridian, opening in October, looks to be even smaller with 147 rooms (100 units).

The smallest non-DVC resort going just by room capacity is the Boardwalk Inn with 372 rooms. Port Orleans French Quarter has 1,008 rooms. However, French Quarter is probably the full resort with the smallest "footprint."

for walking purposes.... which would have the least amount of walking from room to main areas , bus stops and pool?
DH has back problems so I'm hoping we made a good choice with GF. We were treating ourselves for a special occasion and are looking forward to staying at GF. But can't help wondering if we should have chosen FQ because of how small it is.

The grounds at the GF are not that spread out. Walking from the Narcossees to the main building (most distant points on the property is no more than a 15 minute walk. From any of the outbuildings to the monorail or the boat can't be more than 5-10 minutes depending on which building you are in. Perhaps the map below will help you.

would go with WL - the entire resort is under one roof. It is for me as beautifully as GF - and more peaceful. (my opinion)

If you are looking for proximity as to food/transport/ pool I think it's all kinda relative. If for example you stayed port Orleans riverside, its a very large spread out resort..at least that's the first reaction that comes to mind.... However, with a preferred room request/location the buildings are very close to the restaurant/food court/ main bus and quiet pool/check in/store/bar etc. Kwim?

So it's important to know if there are available specific rooms buildings/locations that would work best for your hubby.
I like both GF and WL, but in your case maybe WL would be better since it is more contained? Just my two cents..have a fabulous trip regardless of where you stay!

I'd actually pick the Contemporary for the least amount of walking. You elevator to your room, the shops and restaurants are all under one roof. You even get on the monorail inside the resort. The bus stops are not far from the front door.

my 2nd choice would be the Wilderness Lodge for least amount of walking. Again, everything under one roof.

We were thinking of CR but we are on a friends and family discount and it was not included on the dates we were going.

If you stay in the Tower, CR is up & down, little walking. WL is also a small resort. All the rooms are inside which is a blessing during the storms. FQ would be the smallest of the mod's. Though, if I were to stay at a mod, I'd book a preferred room at POR. Everything is close.

If you book a preferred room at POR or FQ or ... just about anywhere, you are going to be closest to the busses and main buildings, etc.

I thinking CR. If you are in the main building you can see everything from your back or front door. The restaurants are all below on the concourse (2 min away) and just out the BLT side of the building is the bus (5 min walk) and on the concourse is the monorail (2 min again).

I agree. I didn't find the GF grounds to be too spread out. With that said, I also agree with the suggestion of WL. The WL is pretty compact with everything under one roof.

The only drawback to the WL, and I love the WL, is the walk from the boat to the lobby - as OP noted that her husband has a hard time walking.

They don't have to take the boat, there is also a bus to MK. I don't think the walk is a long way to the bus stops.

I think you might be focussing on the wrong thing. If a couple minutes of extra walking at your resort will be enough to cause problems for your DH, how will he handle the walking in the parks? You might want to look into renting an ECV for him from an offsite company if walking distances is a problem. The distance around the resort is only a tiny fraction of the walking that he'll do at WDW.

you're totally right! OP, my mom rented an ECV from an off-site company one year at WDW. We went to WDW without thoughts of renting one, but after a little walking, her hip was bothering her too much. The front desk or concierge either gave my brother the company name/phone number, or they called for us. They delivered it right to the resort, she could drive it right into her room, all around the resort and all the parks. A little difficult w/ the buses, have to wait for one w/ room for an EVC (but it really wasn't an issue, but there could be EVC's already on the bus and you'd have to wait, etc). She could have never continued the trip w/out it. I'd definitely look into that for your dh.
