What would you say is the smallest resort? FQ? GF?
And the most compact? meaning the least amount of walking

I'd actually pick the Contemporary for the least amount of walking. You elevator to your room, the shops and restaurants are all under one roof. You even get on the monorail inside the resort. The bus stops are not far from the front door.
my 2nd choice would be the Wilderness Lodge for least amount of walking. Again, everything under one roof.
We were thinking of CR but we are on a friends and family discount and it was not included on the dates we were going.

The grounds at the GF are not that spread out. Walking from the Narcossees to the main building (most distant points on the property is no more than a 15 minute walk. From any of the outbuildings to the monorail or the boat can't be more than 5-10 minutes depending on which building you are in. Perhaps the map below will help you.

I think you might be focussing on the wrong thing. If a couple minutes of extra walking at your resort will be enough to cause problems for your DH, how will he handle the walking in the parks? You might want to look into renting an ECV for him from an offsite company if walking distances is a problem. The distance around the resort is only a tiny fraction of the walking that he'll do at WDW.
