Smallest boy in grade?

My DH was the same way and our DS is following in his footsteps:goodvibes DH was on the small side until he was about 16, I think. Now he is average size--about 5'9" and muscular. Our DS is only 5 and just started kindergarten. He is literally a head (about 6-8 inches) shorter than quite a few of his classmates. Luckily, we use the same pediatrician that my husband went to as a child--the ped keeps reminding me about how Daddy was;) I try not to draw too much attention to DS's size--he is pretty sure he is as big as the other kids and I wouldn't want him to feel inferior.

Kids in middle school start doing the comparing game and will always find something that they're NOT. My son is 14 and is used to being the biggest boy in every class he's been in. Now he's complaining that some of the girls and the male TEACHERS are taller than him... :confused3 I had to remind him that those SAME girls will be up to his belt buckle because they will stop growing and he'll shoot past them in high school. As for the teachers... I tell him that they had 23 years to get where they are! :rotfl:

I was 36" tall in the 6th grade. My sister was in the same grade and she was 5feet 2! Everyone thought I was an INFANT! Today we are still only 11 months apart, she stopped growing and I continued to grow, now we're 3 inches apart.

My DH was 70lbs in 7th grade and also the smallest in his class (doesn't remember how tall, but he was short). He's 6 ft now and built like a linebacker, there is hope!

Growth spurts come at different times for different people. I hit 6' when I was in 7th grade - tallest kid in the class. I stopped growing and never gained another inch - in high school several boys in the class had passed me.

One of my good friends in high school was the shortest kid in the class - he was noticeably shorter than the other boys - probably about 5'2" . For graduation we entered by height and he was leading the class.

We went in different directions after high school, but a year later he stopped by for a visit - he was 5'11" - he grew 9 inches after high school.

My son was the smallest kid for years, 25th percentile. In the last year or two he has finally started growing. He is still not nearly as big as a lot of the boys, but he's catching up. He's 14 and in 9th grade. For a few years he actually discovered he could use it to his advantage, by being small and looking young, he could get free cookies and stuff at the stores that were for kids 10 and under LOL.
My husband grew at least 3 inches after we met when he was a senior in high school, so I'm hoping my ds still has plenty of growing to do.

Eh i get called midget everyday. I actually get greeted with have you grown or shrunk today? and my new nicknames are shortie and titch. Nearly everyone is a good 5 inches taller than me. Well someone has to be the small kid, tell him he should consider it an honour.

[for the record i'm in 8th grade and about 5ft(but i must look shorter coz people are always shocked when i tell them this) weighing 90 pounds(always been heavier than i look)]

My DS is 8-1/2 and is barely over 4 feet tall.

Yikes ! My son is 12, in the 7th grade...and he's about the same height! 49" to be exact. He about 65 pounds, and by far the smallest boy his grade. We've had him checked out by his doctors, and there's no medical reason.....so we're just waitng for a growth spurt !! (My brothers are all over 6', so there is hope for him!)

The only time it bothers him is if he's offered a children's menu (that says 10 & under), or when he's shopping at Holister with his sister.....(He "swims" in their clothes!)

But the girls all think he's cute...so he doesn't complain too much :)

My son is also in the 7th grade, 12 years old and weighs only 73 pounds. He also has a friend (a girl) that ocassionally calls him midget. Some of his male friends are much taller and more muscular then he is. My son still looks like a boy where some of his friends are looking more like teens. I am only 5' 1 1/2" but my son still has hope b/c his Dad is over 6' I just tell him not to worry about it b/c it's too early to tell and that his Dad didn't grow till about Freshman year. Luckily, he still has a pretty good sense of humor about it.

My bf was like that. Short and painfully skinny. He had a growth spurt in high school and is now 6'...however he stayed extremely skinny up until about a year ago (he's almost 29) and now he's average weight I'd guess. He grew so quickly in H.S. that he has some stretch marks. Children just grow at different rates. I was always the "giant" of the class, which probably wasn't any better to take. ;) However, I stopped growing at a young age (around 11 or 12) so I'm not super tall anymore. :)
