I am planning on taking my parents the last week of October to Disneyland. They have not been for over 40 years. My mothers favorite ride is small world. have already booked hotel but now I am looking at dates small worlds could be closed. I am so lost this is one of the main reasons she is willing to go. From what I have been reading they close it down the last week of October for their holiday overlay. Does anyone know for sure if that happens??

We went the 3rd week of October last year and it was closed. We were kind of bummed because my little kids love that ride.

Small World closed on 10/21/13, 10/22/12, and 10/24/11 for installation of the holiday overlay. There is some question about when the holiday season will start this year, but at this point I would guess IaSW will go down about the same time as in the past few years. If seeing IaSW is a priority, I would move your trip to earlier in October.

Yes, it goes down for its holiday makeover at this time every year. If it's why she is going, prepare her now that it will most likely be down when you are there, or change your dates if you can.

Does anyone have any idea of this year dates yet? The October calendar is still not up yet.

It looks like the Disneyland calendar is running a bit behind schedule. They should have the hours posted through about October 10 (45-days from today), but I can only see through October 5. In terms of the refurb/closure for IaSW, I don't think they've released that information yet. You can check the refurb list that is maintained by wdwinfo (he updates it on a fairly regular basis):

They haven't announced the holiday dates yet. Let's put it this way, Disney hasn't been trending towards shortening Halloween and Christmas. Since the ride has been going down in the 3rd week of October pretty regularly, it is not suddenly going to stay open into the last week this year.
