I couldn't find a thread on this so I thought I'd post. Forgive me if it's already known. IASW closed an entire month early last week. Luckily we went on it the first day of our trip. When we returned to the MK a few days later to go on it again it was closed for rehab. I asked the CM what happened and she said that the higher ups took an opportunity to close it earlier then expected. It really needed it. The ceiling around the balloons hanging was all falling down. There were huge holes all over the place. I am glad that we got to see it once more though but will miss it on our October trip.

Yes this has been posted before but it is closed until April or May 2005.

Yes, I know it is closed for over a year but it wasn't supposed to go down for rehab until June. Since they closed it a month earlier then expected I thought I'd alert any IASW lovers that might have been planning on riding it before the original June closure date. I don't think it's right that they give you a close down date and then change it at the last minute.

The date had been changed for a few weeks at least.
In any event, riding "one last time" on a ride in such sorry shape before a rehab that will result in it being beautiful and bright and shiny with original design elements reinstalled is a little silly, isn't it? When it reopens, it will still be 'It's a Small World'...

I don't think it's silly at all! It is our favorite ride at WDW. Pathetic I know but that's the truth. Yes, it is in bad shape and am glad it is gettting a major rehab. I was still happy to catch it before it went down. When we return in October and then again in May it will be sorely missed on our list of favorites.

I am so sad!! IASW is the first ride our older DS really paid attention to, and he loved to ride it. I was so looking forward to taking our younger guy on it!

Not silly in the least. Disney is about traditions, and Small World is one of my fiancée's and my traditions. We always ride on it, and if it were closing in the middle of our trip, we'd certainly ride it one last time before it would be gone for almost an entire year. I don't understand in the least how that would be silly.

Wasn't it closed in 2001 or 2002 for an extensive renovation? I remember it being closed on one of our visits...

Noooooooooooo!

It won't be open in Dec '04? Arggggh!!!!

I guess BF will just have to take me back when it's open again... :hyper:

Hey, where can I find a rehap schedule? What else will be closed in Dec.?

Thanks, Snacky!

Whew, looks like we dodged the bullet- IASW is the only one closed during our stay, unless something changes!!!

No not silly...it's called being sentimental :sunny:

I'm glad I have pictures and video of the "old" IASW (silly or not LOL) and look forward to going back after our November trip to seeing the new look.

Diamond-Girls,

Yes it was closed on our visit in 2001 - was due to re-open before we left in September, but they decided to keep it closed for a few days longer. Looks like it will be closed again this time, but my DD's a little older now, so not such as big a deal as it was in 2001

I will miss this ride so much when we go in January! This will be my fiance's first trip, so I wanted him to "experience" it as well. Booo!

Guess we'll have to go back when it opens... darn! pirate:

I,too,do not think it is silly in the least. It is one of my mother's favorite rides, and I still remember her being so goofy about it. She would grin through the whole ride. One of the best memories of being with my mother that I have.:flower:
