I sold my baby bug and 5 font cartridges on ebay last week (who needs font carts when you have SCAL!) and purchased a used expression (I REALLY hope it's in working order - I purchased from someone with a 99% rating and over 126,000 feedbacks).

What is your strategy when you rally want to use a cartridge for a specific layout but know that beyond that one layout you will probably never use that cartridge again?

I took pictures of my kids in matching Superman shirts and I'd love to be able to use the new Superman cartridge for the layout but I don't want to spend the money on something I'll only use once!

I wish there was a place where you can rent a cartridge for a short period of time like you would a DVD!

One of the gals on here may have the cart and can cut them for you..
We are really good about doing that for one another!!! ;)

If I had it, I'd cut one for you..but I don't have it...

Are you comfortable using inkscape with your SCAL?

What some people have done is load the images that they want in the trial version of the cricut design studio. Then you can use print screen or another method to capture the image from your screen into a photo editing program. I know Paint Shop Pro has a capture image tool. Then they import the file in inkscape, and then import that file into SCAL.

I haven't done this before, but I have seen people online talking about it because they wanted to cut the Cricut bug head that you could only get on the Storefront cartridge. There was a video tutorial for that at one point, but I don't remember where I saw it.

There used to be LSSes that rented cartridges, but ProvoCraft considers it a copyright violation.

There used to be a lss in my area that would cut out images for people and charge a nominal fee. I don't know if any still do that - this lss closed like so many do.

Our LSS has a great supply of carts, and when I go to a crop there, I use theirs to make cuts from carts I KNOW I don't need to buy.

Also, as other pps have suggested - you might try using coloring book pages you find online - there's a bunch of Superman ones! - using Inkscape/SCAL.

Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions! I have inkscape on my computer but I have never actually used it. I'll try playing around with it using some tutorials!

I checked out a few of the rental places but they don't have the superman cartridge. It's a brand new one so that's probably why.

Cool! Be sure to report back and show us what you learned!

I've done this before. I took some items from CDS into SCAL (they have a new trace feature in SCAL2) from the new Once Upon a Princess cartridge. I cut this unicorn doing that.

Hi. Only if you were here in southern Ontario.I know of a scrapbooking store 20min. from here that does rent them out.

On Scrapshare.com, they have a RAK board (Random Act of Kindness.) People on there that have the cart you are needing a cut from will cut one for you. All you have to do is return the favor for someone else.

MamaDrama,

Did you post on the SCAL forum? Looking for help?

I just did a superman on there..... :thumbsup2

PM me your email address.

Thanks for your offer to help but I think I got it! I was able to find the superman logo in an SVG file on a crafters blog and I think I was able to get the full figure made into an svg with the help of dogcarbon on the SCAL board! Unfortunately I can't cut until my Expression arrives (supposedly on Thursdsay and assuming it really works!). I'l let y'all know what happens!

I love this board!!
