small heads up re summer holidays

great info Carol. It would appear that the credit crunch is hitting the pocket and holidays are always the 1st non- essential that people 'go without' to cut back - the small specialist companies will be hit hard. :worried:

I see that Silverjet has suspended flights this morning. Doesn't look good.

no they have definately gone into liquidation, another great idea scuppered!

Not looking good is it :confused3
BA have added more money to flights today as well :worried:

there have been so many companies during the last few weeks, oasis, the low cost carrier to hong kong went down as well.
The libra flags were raised when we were informed by them that they weren't printing any more brochures fo rthis year which is mad as technically its still the beginning of the season, then their agency sales division couldn't confirm next seasons commission rates. Then the flood of letters started saying they couldn't put up this client or that client in specific hotels. Funny enough the big 2 didn't have any problems with occupancies at those hotels so it definately wasn't the hotels being refurbished or anything.
Its now got that any inconsistency in bookings we are treating as a red flag to double check on those companies in question.

Interestingly, I saw a news report last week where the reporter said that people were making different economies than in the past. These days a holiday is seen to be more important than say 20 years ago, people are making their first savings in this recession by not buying new clothes, not eating out and buying cheaper food before they'll give up their holidays.

I would agree with that ! for us a holiday is a must do and i would prefer to make cut-backs elsewhere 1st :)
