My family (Me, DH, DS (10) and DD (7)) will be going to WDW for a few days in December. I thought that since we were going to be there so close to Christmas, and to (maybe) avoid the usual "gimmees" that occur whenever we are in the parks, I want to give the kids small gifts each evening we are going to be there. Maybe knowing that a present is waiting for them at the hotel will keep them from asking for EVERYTHING under the sun. I will let them know that they are Christmas presents from Daddy and Me.

I've got lots of things for my daughter. One "biggie" I have for her is a Tinkerbell denim jacket that I got awhile back on sale at disneyshopping.com. Then there are a couple of Hannah Montana books and a t-shirt or two that she can wear while we are down there.

Finding things for DS that are comparable is tough, though. I wish there was more in the way of Disney themed products for BOY tweens. He wouldn't mind wearing a Mickey shirt -- but most everything for boys is REALLY young.

Any ideas?

My 13 year old will wear Jack Skeleton stuff. (there should tons of that on sale right now for halloween) And villians stuff is still cool to him- The pirates stuff is a little young but there are some things like a treasure chest of sorts that he would still be into maybe.

And pins for pin trading? My son was into that up until this last trip. Any light up stuff?

I think it's great that you are thinking ahead. I have some suggestions for which the boys seem old enough:

1. Give them a budgeted amount of money to spend so that they may make their own decision.

2. My kids love collecting pressed pennies at the parks & hotels. The books are sold all over @$6.50 each. Put a shiny penny in the machine and out comes a pressed penny with a Disney theme. Each one costs two quarters and they can be found all over not just at Disney. My kids look over theirs and it brings back memories of where we were and what we were doing.

3. a small collectible item such as key chains or pins would focus their shopping searches

Hope that helps - enjoy your trip!

I wanted to share with you what we have done for our last 3 trips to Disney with my son who is 10. I have purchased him a Disney Giftcard for $10 day - so a 5 day trip is a $50 dollar giftcard. He really took his time deciding during the week what he would spend it on and never asked us to buy him anything. Just an idea I thought you might be interested in trying.

Have a great trip!

does he have any interest in Hidden Mickeys? We got our son "the hidden Mickeys Field Guide" book last year and he loved it. Every time we were on the monorail, he read his book and couldnt wait to search for the hidden Mickeys when we got to the parks. (I liked it too :) )
He also loves those fan things that spray water, but you may not need those in Dec
A wallet to hold a few bucks that he can spend on something he finds always goes over well.

good luck and have fun. I will update if I think of anything else

Hey - those are great ideas.

I've filled a cart at disneyshopping...now to get the nerve to complete the order (my DH will think i've flipped my lid...again:rotfl2: ) That deal on the pirates sweatshirt is awesome. There must be a few new things since I looked last because I KNOW there wasn't that much for DS when I looked before.

My big problem with giving him a gift card or cash for each day is that my 7 year old will want that too...and she's already getting some nice schwag. I have thought of giving them EACH an amount of discretionary funds...I might still do this.

I like the Hidden Mickey Book idea. My kids both enjoy looking for them...and since I've got that great "Tink" jacket for DD (and DS will be jealous because it is such a nice gift (not jealous that he wants a Tink jacket...)) it will make a great counterpoint for that.

Thanks for the great suggestions... any others?
