Does it make sense to purchase a few small contracts in order to not have to finance? How does it work if you have a few different sets of points? Can they be easily combined or would we have to make different reservations for each set of points? I hope these questions make sense :)

Points at different resorts cannot be combined until the 7 month mark. And to do that you probably should have all your contracts the same Use Year and all titled exactly the same.

There is a pretty good thread just below this one "Why own at multiple resorts?". Read the whole thread, it addresses your questions.

If you are looking at buying smaller contracts so you won't have to finance, I'm assuming you're looking at buying direct. If so, you should consider buying resale. The prices are much lower so you could possibly get the contract size you want without breaking the bank. Good luck!

We are looking into resale :) We like AKL for the value rooms, BLT (DH thinks it looks awesome lol), or VGC because we live in Oregon! Not sure what ones to do and best number of points each!

The value rooms at AKV are difficult to get unless you own there. At BLT, the SV rooms go pretty fast and of course, VGC is a small resort so depending on when you travel, getting in at the 7 month mark could prove difficult.

IMO, try to decide which one is most important and start there. If trips to WDW are going to be more frequent than DL, then go with AKV or BLT. And, if the values are important, then I would start with AKV.

Some have bought smaller amounts in two resorts and then use banking/borrowing to alternate trips at the resorts or just do split stays. Say you buy 100 points at AKV and then 100 points at BLT. In year 1, you bank BLT but borrow AKV to give you 200 points to use at AKV at the 11 month mark. In Year 2, you have 200 BLT points to use.

As mentioned, however, if you buy different contracts, you want the same UY if you want to combine at 7 months easily as different UY's, mean different memberships and its a bit trickier to do it that way.

Good luck!

If you want AKV for the value rooms you NEED to buy enough points there to be able to get them at the 11 month advantage.

BLT IS awesome!! :thumbsup2 But for value accomodations you almost need to buy enough points there to get them at the 11 month window.

Same for VGC. If you want to go there you will NEED to buy there.

If being on the west coast is important to you, you should calculate how many points it will be for a desired stay and buy a larger contract there. Then buy smaller contracts at AKV/BLT as needed. At 7 months all points are equal.

Only you know what size units you will require or the seasons you travel or how long you want to stay. I haven't personally checked but there has to be DVC points charts somewhere on this board.
