Small Contract...then add on?

I am presently in the process of purchasing a small 25 point contract at BCV through the time share store. I was not ready to purchase the minimum of 150 points needed to get started through Disney. I could not pay cash for all the points and did not want to finance the purchase.

How hard will it be to periodically add on points?
Will I be able to purchase directly from Disney?
Does this seem like a reasonable way to get to 150-200 points?
Should I just bite the bullet and make a purchase before Feb. 1 in order to get Friends and Family?

A penny for your thoughts!

I think you are very wise to start in small. That's what we have started out with for exactly the same reasons. It is a lot of money to tie up with the bigger contracts and if you aren't happy with your purchase (though I don't see why you won't be) a smaller contract appears to sell much more quickly than the larger ones. You can add on later through the timeshare store or through Disney once your BCV purchase is completed. If you go through Disney the smallest amount you can purchase is 25 points, cash up front, or they will be happy to finance 50 or more points. Good luck!

You can add-on periodically. The only drawback would be the price is going to be unknown from Disney after Feb. 1. For resales, the small contracts go fast so it may be harder to get one quick but you can get a better price-probably/maybe(don't forget closing costs). You don't want to mix too many resorts, it gets hard to keep track of points/banking, etc. with different resorts. Keep the same use year if you buy resales or it will really get difficult. If you got the resale in the next few days, you would have to buy 120 points to add on at SSR. If you don't get the resale and go through Disney with F&F, the minimum points to buy is 150. It probably is a good idea to start small and see how it goes but with 25 you may not be going much depending on when and where and what you stay in. You may have to bank and borrow every 3 years but as long as thats OK it will work until you "get the add-on bug"! It will get your foot in the door to DVC and you can see how it goes as long as you know what you are getting (not many points-trips). You can always rent points to be transferred to your account once you are a member and go for longer trips until you add on.

I'm just curious about the details of the contract you are pursuing at BCV. I certainly hope you make it thru ROFR, but with the trend of Disney exercising ROFR on smaller contracts, I would guess that a high demand small contract like BCV would most likely get ROFR'd. They could get that contract and immediately have it sold to a DVC member on the addon waitlist.

I dunno, just my though. However, if you really want BCV, then you'll pretty much have to keep going for resale contracts. If you would be happy with SSR, it might be worth it to consider the F&F deal. You could finance thru DVC and then deduct the interest on your taxes (as long as you don't already have 2 mortgages).

Anyway, just my thoughts. Good luck and keep us posted on that BCV contract.

If you get through ROFR I think your plan is fine. I bought a small contract 80 points through TTS and then I just added 50 points through disney. I had my points on the day I called. That does not happen all the time. The first day I called they had points in all of the resorts. The second day some were gone. Anyway... Good Luck! :cloud9:

pixiedust: Good luck in your journey, hope you have a speedy & positive outcome.

Excuse my flair for stating the obvious...but resale was the only way for us to buy where we wanted to stay, although we look forward to sampling them all.

It also allowed us to pay cash & avoid pesky financing of a huge contract but, starting to think no number of points will ever satisfy me.:sunny:

I am in the process of buying a 50 point OKW contract (assuming Disney doesn't snag it). Once I have done this, are you saying that I can buy more points right from Disney?

Do you know how much they charge, for say 25 more points?

Also, do my points all go in one pot? Meaning I have my OKW 50, then get another 25 (through Disney or even another resale)...do I have 75 to use? Or are they kept separate....meaning I might have issues when booking. Like I need 60 for BCV for 5 nights in early December. That is 12 per night. If they keep them separate, then I can only book 4 nights (48 pts) under the 50 point contract (leaving 2 leftover) and then have to do a different ressie for the 5th night (using 12, leaving 13 left over). Or, again, are they all in one pot, regardless of which contract they are on?

In answer to your last question, something tells me that yes, you should just go ahead and buy 150 from Disney.

I wish you luck in getting through ROFR. If you do, please come back and let us know.

If you are successful in getting the small contract, then you are in and building up by buying from Disney should be easier, although you are stlll trying for points at a sold out resort - those BCV points may not be as easy to build on as say, a BWV or OKW point base.

When should I expect my penny?

Thanks for all the advice....I am really having difficulty making decision. The Friends and Family Plan ends on Wednesday. It is a great deal at $83 per point and no closing costs. I might kick myself for missing this opportunity!

Although starting small at BCV is still an appealing plan.

I think I am going to owe many pennies!

Right now 25 points at a sold out resort costs $2300, that's 92 a point. We just added 25 VWL points, so the number sticks to my brain. You can only use the 11 month home advantage with the number of points you have at that location, using banking and borrowing. If you book a ressie at 7 months or less, then the points can be mixed for the reservation.
